@PuffItUp did their 'first look' review of the AERO by Focus Vapes....

The AERO Vaporizer is a dual chamber convection portable by the new American design branch of FocusVape. We’ve been heavily “testing” the pre-release model – here are our initial thoughts!

Vapor Production
Pure convection vaporization isn’t usually known for vapor density but the AERO delivers the good stuff. The first couple of hits are nearly pure flavor. Once your material is fully dried the vapor flow kicks in strong, filling your lungs with potent deliciousness. Vapor from the AERO is smooth and tasty even at the higher temperature settings.

The AERO has a temp range of 320-464F and setting for setting it runs a bit cooler than most other vapes. I like starting at 380°F for a bit more vapor from the go. Inhaling deeply makes a big difference in how much heat is transferred from the ceramic core up through your material. We like to max out around 420° but we couldn’t get it to combust even at 464F for those that like going darker.

Dual Chambers
The AERO’s main claim to fame are the twin stainless steel loading chambers. You can pack one or both then rotate the top section to select which chamber gets the heat. The ceramic heating core is held a distance below the loading chamber for convection extraction with minimal conduction buildup. The only other multiple chamber vapes were the Haze V3 and Square which sadly are no longer being made. Two loaded chambers come in handy for multiple sessions on the go or avoiding the dreaded repack delay when passing it around with friends.

Airpath
In our AERO Teardown we were able to confirm the airpath is fully isolated from electronics. Fresh air enters the base, travels up through the heater and chamber then into the zirconium mouthpiece. Once inside the mouthpiece your vapor travels through a long circular maze for plenty of extra time and surface area to cool down. Airflow is also adjustable using the slider in the base; we prefer it fully open.

Battery
The AERO vaporizer is powered by a non-removable 21700 Li-ion, the higher capacity cousin to the more common 18650. We haven’t had enough time to accurately test battery life yet but it seems close to an hour. The AERO charges through standard Micro-USB and you can use it while charging if there are 1 or more battery bars left.

In our teardown we learned the battery is a model LR2170SA made by Lishen. Our online research (Googling) of spec sheets for this battery all show it as a whopping 4000 mAh capacity and 12A max output. The AERO’s manual currently states the battery has a 4800 mAh capacity; we think this was either a typo or they changed batteries and forgot to update the specs.

Display
The AERO’s crisp, clear OLED display has all the info you need:

  • Temperature
  • Battery Gauge
  • Session Timer

Portability
At 4.75″ H x 1.6″ D the AERO is a thicc portable; it will fit in most pockets but expect some bulge. The shell is made out of stainless steel and the mouthpiece is thick zirconium, two of the toughest inert materials. This vape feels like a tank that should easily survive years of pocket carrying and group sessions.

Maintenance

Brushing ABV particles out of the chambers between uses is the best way to keep the AERO clean. When buildup does occur all you need is 91%+ isopropyl alcohol and q-tips to shine it back up. Hold the unit upside down, scrub out the chambers with your iso dampened q-tips then let it dry upside down. You can unscrew the mouthpiece to wipe out any residue inside, let it dry and you’re good to go. This vape is very low maintenance.

Operation
Controlling the AERO is intuitive and simple. Three clicks to the power button activates and deactivates the unit while the + and – buttons adjust temperature. When your selected temperature is reached the AERO vibrates to let you know. Pull the mouthpiece upward to remove it and access your loading chambers. Load material into your chamber(s) and rotate the section with the FocusVape logo to select which chamber you want to use. Insert your mouthpiece with the screen over the active chamber and you’re ready to rip. The stainless steel tool hidden in the base is perfect for mid-session stirs.

What’s in the Box

Final Thoughts

We’re excited to see FocusVape harness a new design team with years of knowledge and experience creating monster hitting portables. Between the full metal shell and dense zircon mouthpiece the AERO is easily one of the sturdiest feeling vaporizers I’ve ever held. Switchable chambers are an underrated feature for vaping on the go and rotating them between sessions can become addicting. The 21700 battery heats the ceramic element in under a minute with enough juice to chuck out couch locking levels of vapor. To top it off the AERO is nearly 100% convection so flavor is delicious with little to no idle cooking between rips.

EDIT:

Here's a little promo vid using the WPA from @Focus V as well...

AERO Vaporizer Teardown (Warning: Graphic Vape Destruction)

The first vape released in 2019 is the AERO Vaporizer by Focus V, the new American design team of FocusVape. The AERO promises dual loading chambers, convection heating, and a fully isolated airpath. We’re going to test these claims in the only way we know how: breaking it beyond repair!

The AERO Vaporizer – Final Moments
Here’s a look at the AERO alive and well along with slick updated packaging. This is the newest version and it’s a shame we couldn’t spend more quality time with it, but science comes first. Let’s tear this bad boy apart!

Dual Loading Chambers
These are the AERO’s stainless steel loading chambers with the mouthpiece removed. Heat will only pass through one chamber at a time as indicated by the graphic.

Zirconium Mouthpiece Diassembled
The AERO’s mouthpiece is made of two thick pieces of zirconium held together with a silicone retaining ring. Inside the left piece you can see the circular maze that vapor travels before reaching you.

Do not follow along past this point. The mouthpiece and stirring tool are the only pieces that can be removed, anything else will void your warranty.

AERO Base Removed

After taking out the stirring tool we were able to pry the base off using a thin flathead screwdriver. Beneath the base plate you can see the battery, Micro-USB charging connection and metal air intake tube.

21700 Li-ion Battery Removed
Once the base is removed the AERO’s fixed internal battery can be pulled out and snipped away from the electronics. The model number of this battery is the LR2170SA made by Lishen. From all the information we could find online this is a 21700 Li-ion with 4000 mAh capacity and 12A maximum output. The AERO’s user manual and website currently state 4800 mAh capacity which we think may have been a typo or miscommunication somewhere along the time.

Electronics Removed
The next step was to remove the 4 screws securing the inner retainer plate. With that piece out of the way the goodies slid right out of the shell. The green piece with the screen is the primary circuit board and the smaller green piece is the Micro-USB charging module. The thicker wires on the PCB form the positive and negative battery connections while the thinner wires transfer power and temperature signals to and from the heater. The silver tube is the airpath and heating assembly.

Convection Heater Disassembled
First we cut the entire heating assembly away from the circuit board and removed the thermal tape. Below the heat tape a distance away from the ceramic heating element is a small amount of high heat silicone sealing the wire opening. Next we removed the metal retaining ring from the top of the heater. Under the ring were two ceramic cover pieces with thick metal mesh inside insulating the ceramic heating rod.

After taking the airpath and heater apart we can confirm airflow appears isolated from the electronics. Fresh air from outside the base enters the intake, travels up through the heater and out through your material. The heating rod is separated quite a bit from the chamber which means most if not all heat transfer should be convection.

Top Section Removed (By Force)
The chamber cover piece is held by a screw between the chambers. Unfortunately this part would not unscrew so we had to rip it apart with official PIU vape disassembly pliers. The AERO didn’t go down without a fight, giving Randy a hefty cut on the hand as he tore it apart.

Final Thoughts
It’s great seeing Focus entering new territory with their 2019 designs. The rotating dual chambers were a feature we loved on the Haze models and we’re glad to see it in another vape. The 21700 battery is a welcome addition and should offer quite a bit more juice than its lower capacity cousin the 18650. Also the straight shot metal tube airpath is one of our favorite styles. It’s simple, clean, and keeps the air and vapor you’re inhaling away from the internals.

I like the look of this & the idea of two chambers is appealing for me. Looks like decent sized chambers too.

Randy really does the entire vape community a tremendous service with his unbiased opinions & complete tear downs. An informed consumer is a happy consumer.
