COVID-19

We still do not have a flu vaccine.
That's not accurate.
I get a Flu Vaccination yearly... everyone I know does.
Influenza vaccines, also known as flu shots or flu jabs, are vaccines that protect against infection by influenza viruses. New versions of the vaccines are developed twice a year, as the influenza virus rapidly changes.

When I leave the house, I wear a mask in the car.... Almost everyone in Tucson that I see when I am on the road is wearing a mask.
Of course you may do what you wish but I cannot take seriously anybody wearing a mask in your own car when by yourself (and you are not a public conveyance like Uber driver) who at the same time says "follow the science".

This is just too funny for words. What....you think the virus will dive bomb your car out of the sun like the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. Right in thru the ventilation intake, through the air distro system, and smack dab into your mucus membranes like an X Fighter in Star Wars? haha

I give a shit what he thinks... ESPECIALLY because he is an advocate for societal views, when these views are about safe practices.
Yeah, funny how we all love people who....well, agree with us. Doesn't make them right in any objective sense....but damn, they think like I do so they must have the word direct from the gods. hahaha

You are fortunate then, that you were not "forced" to comply with Societal norms, and get Vaccinated with the rest of the world during TB, Polio, and Smallpox.
Now you are just being ludicrous. It sure as fuck wasn't "societal norms" that got me vaccinated against other diseases. I was taken as a child to get some and I choose as an adult to get others...such as my recent decision to take the Moderna COVID vaccine. "Societal Norms" had fuck all to do with it.

No reason to call cautious individuals "idiots", @I'm Ron Burgundy?
You are correct. I was quoting @Baron23
And you still not correct. Please show me where I said "Cautious individuals are idiots" A verbtim quote, if you will, not your interpretation of what I post. Don't put words in my mouth, Vito.

However, let me help you out....IMO, anybody who drives around solo in their own car with a mask on is not being cautious but rather is being obsessive and fear driven and if not indeed an utter idiot, then they at least fail to understand "the science"

I'm out of here...should have stayed out of here.

No words put in your mouth... it is a direct quote.. I wrote nothing,,, just pushed the "quote" button!
I guess this was not you saying this?
how do you feel about the idiots in their own car...by themselves....driving with fucking mask on and fogged up glasses.
and I replied...
I feel VERY good about them.
When I leave the house, I wear a mask in the car.... Almost everyone in Tucson that I see when I am on the road is wearing a mask. I wear eye protection also... no fog issue, the safety glasses clip down on the nose bridge of the mask.
Yesterday I was forced to be out a good part of the day for Dental restoration.
Out of 6 hours on the road, I saw maybe 2 unmasked drivers.
When I go to Phoenix, I do not see this.. I do not see many masks on the road there at all.
I fully believe that is the difference in positivity rates.
Phoenix this morning still had a positivity rate of 10%
Here where I see all drivers on the road driving masked, we are at 3%
If you don't like wearing a mask when driving, don't.
No reason to call cautious individuals "idiots", @Baron23

I don’t wear a mask in the car unless someone is with me. If I’m walking on the trail I don’t wear a mask unless I’m approaching someone. It’s what I feel comfortable with. I was with my son in the car and made him wear a mask. God knows where he‘s been. Same with my teen granddaughters and my daughter. I feel more safe now that I have had both doses of the vaccine. Rates of the virus has gone down substantially in nursing homes because of the seniors getting vaccinated.

Some people are going to need therapy, many germ a fobes around that won’t want to leave their homes.

edit
I think eventually countries are going to make it so much of a hassle to travel if you haven’t had a vaccine. Like continuing to make travelers to quarantine and testing before and after your vacation. Anybody want to go on a cruise? I’ve already seen the ads.
Really a terrible situation in Brazil.

I wear a mask in the car, because I drive with windows down for my dog's comfort (and I afford gas better when not using the air).
EVERY stop light treats me to some homeless and visually unclean person running up to the car with their sign....
..breathing at me with wide open mouths, as they ask for support.
I could close window in the heat of Tucson......
or I could put my mask on at each stop light...
Or I can wear my mask like the majority of Tucson's drivers do.
Some take self quarantine and distancing further than others.
I for example have a terminal condition... with lung problems, 1/2 of a colon...
heart issues and more.
IMO, anybody who drives around solo in their own car with a mask on is not being cautious but rather is being obsessive and fear driven and if not indeed an utter idiot
I do not need to be called obsessive, fear driven... or an utter idiot. (or even have that subtly hinted at)
I'm a 70 year old man with 7 serious medical conditions, trying not to get breathed on and die.
I do not get my second dose for 4 more days.
After my 2nd dose, I will self quarantine at home for 14 days before resuming my activities.
After that, I will continue wearing a mask to protect those around me, and to help
them feel safer, just by seeing the mask.... until I see evidence that there is no longer a risk in my eyes.
Anyone here feel the need to call names or make light over that decision?

So far, upwards of 60 million Americans have already taken the leap and been vaccinated with the Covid-19 series of jabs. The US government is working overtime to vaccinate a high percentage of the population to add to the health chaos that’s coming with the financial/economic tsunami.
Vax pass will be not unlike the 'Yellow Badges' from 1939-45, sound familiar??
Your vax papers will probably have a red logo instead of yellow, as you are data-based and listed on a government watch list as a racist, extremist, domestic terrorist. TSA agents will become the new SS police, verifying your “papers” at the airport, bus stations, train stations, and highway entrances to every different U.S. state. They will get boners over this power. 12% of Americans have already been marked by the proverbial beast.
And don’t believe all the lies coming from mainstream media and the J. B. Regime that it’s only the states and local authorities that can enforce mandatory vaccinations, the Feds are also sticking the jab to freely associated states, And yes, from the political party of “you don’t need an ID to vote” comes “show me your vaccine papers” to go anywhere and do anything. Once the vaccine passport begin rolling out for domestic travel, it will never ever be lifted once it’s mandatory. Have no doubts about that.

Most people I’ve talked with want a vaccine. I have talked with a few that say they won’t get one. Someone I work with says she already had covid, that’s her reason for not getting the vaccine. I respect her choice. Our bars just opened up to 50%. She went to the bar with friends, I didn’t give her a hard time. Something I wouldn’t have done but she’s a party girl, she’s not young either.
People are feeling a sense of freedom after they get vaccinated, I do. They are able to see their loved ones and hug them.

I do wear a mask when I go to the drive thru sandwich shop.

I don’t believe in doom and gloom with being tracked down by the covid police. :scooter: It would not surprise me if they make it hard for unvaccinated individuals traveling on an airplane, trains or ships.

(and I afford gas better when not using the air).
“The rule of thumb is to keep the windows down while on city streets, then resort to air conditioning when you hit the highway,” says Slate writer Brendan Koerner. “Every car has a speed at which rolled-down windows cause so much drag as to decrease fuel economy more than a switched-on AC.

The rule of thumb is to keep the windows down while on city streets
That makes good sense.
I do only drive in residential areas, and never above 40mph.
When I must go to Phoenix, I take a transport.
I got in the habit of not having air conditioning from 17 years behind the wheel of a 1969 Mail Truck (My Ice Cream Truck).
I drove 10 hours a day, 7 days a week for that entire time.
In the summertime the temperature inside the Truck was as high as 120º if I kept rolling.
My car for the next 15 years was a 1995 Black Explorer with no air.
Now I turn the A.C. on set to 62º and shut all windows when I make a stop, so that Dusty stays cool while I'm not in the car.
I do not care if this part is economical.... he loves traveling with me, and he stays comfortable.

I can see that, as usual, things have gotten 'heated' in this thread. I want to remind everyone that we all have to respond respectfully to one another. Cause I really hate waking up to reports..... not my best time of the day. And my response to nonsense usually reflects this.

I am curious and it has nothing to do with covid......kinda.
Were any of the people who are for mask mandates and other government enforcement..........did you use cannabises before it was legal for you to do so?
I ask because it is still federally illegal and according to them they are following the science.
The exact same people saying the exact same things about both.
There is a conflict there I am wondering how you resolve that mentally?

SIMCOE The Norfolk and Haldimand board of health is prepared to resign unless the Ford government ensures that the same rules apply to all farmers in Ontario when it comes to migrant workers and COVID-19 protocols.

Norfolk Mayor Kristal Chopp, chair of the board of health, dropped the bombshell Tuesday during a rally protesting the higher public-health standard in Norfolk and Haldimand relative to other health districts.

“If you want me to say it’s bullshit, I will – it’s bullshit,” Chopp said in response to a farmer who berated the mayor while she addressed a large crowd at the Norfolk County Fairgrounds in Simcoe.

“All options at this point are on the table,” she told the crowd. “If that means the entire board of health resigning, we’re prepared to do that.”

0324 sr protest

Norfolk council serves as the board of health for Norfolk and Haldimand counties because of Norfolk’s larger population.

The board has been largely passive over the past year as Dr. Shanker Nesathurai, Norfolk and Haldimand’s medical officer of health, has imposed public-health orders on the management of migrant workers that go beyond what is required in other health districts.

However, the tone changed Monday after the board of health emerged from a lengthy closed-door session and passed a resolution directing Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett to arrange “an urgent meeting” with Health Minister Christine Elliott and Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health.

On Tuesday, Chopp said local public-health decisions are being made “in a silo,” so much so that the board of health has lost confidence that it can “meet our obligations” under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

If not satisfied with the province’s response, the board will resign and leave the Ford government without a local health authority, said Chopp.

Last year, Nesathurai stipulated that only three migrant workers could perform their mandatory 14-day quarantine per bunkhouse in Norfolk and Haldimand regardless of how large a bunkhouse might be.

This compares with health jurisdictions elsewhere which apply the federal standard. The Service Canada standard says offshore workers must be able to maintain two metres social distancing at all times during the quarantine period. Under this formula, floor area determines how many workers can quarantine per bunkhouse.

Nesathurai’s latest stipulation requires farmers to shuttle up to three migrant workers at a time in a private vehicle from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport to their bunkhouses and not en masse in buses. The board of health has broken with Nesathurai over this because affected workers arrive together on the same airplane.

As well, requiring separate rides means multiple drivers may be exposed to COVID-19 instead of a solitary bus driver. Critics also point out it is difficult to social distance in a regular vehicle but feasible on a large vehicle like a bus.

Frogmore asparagus grower Frank Schonberger told the crowd the solution is for the province or Ottawa to take charge of the mandatory 14-day quarantine and let farmers focus on producing food.

Schonberger added the 250 tractors taking part in Tuesday’s action is the most he’s ever seen for such a protest. He suggested Queen’s Park could be next if the Ford government doesn’t acknowledge the plight of local farmers.

“Don’t put your tractors in the barn just yet,” Schonberger said at the close of Tuesday’s protest. “We might have to go even further yet.”

This question is rhetorical, since the things mentioned are both realities, regardless of government condoning it.
No conflict in my eyes.
I use both... masks and MMJ to remain well and safe.
In a lucky position, I was allowed to use Marijuana as part of a Federal study for many years before it became legal here, as part
of the study, I was given G-13 grown in Mississippi at no cost to me. It was some of the best flower I have had. (it was given to me pre-rolled, in "packs")
In your post, you ask the question as to how we resolve the conflict mentally.
As Humans, we are allowed to "pick and choose" what we believe in and how we abide. We do not have to sign in blood that we will only believe
in one set of rules, and have no contradiction or conflicts of interest.
Even had I not been allowed by the Federal Gov. to smoke, (I had not yet begun to vaporize) I would
still have picked and chosen what I believe in.
  • Yes.. I believe in mask mandates because my freedom to remain safe is placed at risk by those who do not. I feel that my health is placed in jeopardy by those that refuse to cooperate
  • Yes... I believe in Marijuana because it keeps me from severe symptoms that cause me consequences. I feel that my health is placed in jeopardy without it.
No conflict for me.

It is recommended that I still do wear one.
I still have a 2 week quarantine during which I am susceptible.
I also can still affect others if I am carrying the virus from elsewhere.
Also since I am not sure how effective this vaccination was on me, I will take less chances by remaining distant... yet will feel confident that I have the "base" level of extra protection over simple distancing.
I will more easily risk going out on dinner dates with my lady friend.
I will wear a mask entering and leaving for the public's comfort, but will be less concerned about the time we dine face to face across
a table... knowing I am unlikely to actually catch anything.
Basically the mask will be to protect others from any contaminant I may be carrying, and for social approbation as I enter and leave places where they do not know my level of hygiene, or of my fully vaccinated status.
