I love seeing all the pink water out there!!! ok guys, its time to get a discussion going here on cranberry extract to reduce resin buildup, however, this thread will not be limited to that.

What do you vape through and why? Do you use herbal teas or dry herbs in your vape? If you think about it, there are a lot of substances that could be quite beneficial to your vaping medium.

To start off, I will quickly summarize the Cranberry info. I will make a resource on it soon as threads often become wandering giants of repetition.

The journey started with me trying RezBlock. The first formula, the green one, worked ok but its makeup perplexed me. When the next formula came out I guessed fairly quickly that it tasted like cranberry extract.

Going online I found a new study out of Rutgers University describing the active mechanism in cranberry. They actually have an agricultural experimental station for blueberry and cranberry research.

The Science: Craberies have been used by enlightened people for a very long time to help with UTI infections. As it turns out the cranberries contain Proanthocyanidins. Proanthocyanidins are a class of polyphenols found in a variety of plants. Chemically, they are oligomeric flavonoids. Many are oligomers of catechin and epicatechin and their gallic acid esters. More complex polyphenols, having the same polymeric building block, form the group of tannins.

Cranberry fruit is rich in polyphenolic constituents with flavonols, anthocyanins, and proanthocyanidins (PACs) being the major classes of phytochemicals. In contrast to other species, for example, cocoa, grape, pomegranate, noted for relatively high proanthocyanidin content, cranberries contain proanthocyanidins with A-type linkages between units. PACs with the A-type linkage are associated with antibacterial adhesion properties (Howell and Vorsa, 1998; Foo et al., 2000) and (Cranberry Therapy of Urinary Tract Infections, Wise Young PhD MD, Professor II & Director W M Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience Rutgers, State University of New Jersey)

So how this works is the Proanthocyanidins have a unique bio-slipperiness which makes it so the bad guys in your urinary tract can't stick to anything and they get flushed away. There are no antiseptic qualities going on here.

It is this exact mechanism that keeps resin from sticking to you glass . . . :science:

Usage: First you need to get some cranberry extract. This does NOT mean juice as it is mostly sugar and water. Also, you need to find an extract that does not contain alcohol as inhaling ethanol vapors can seriously irritate your lungs. We have found that Nature's Answer Cranberry Extract (NACE) and Botanic Choice (BC) both make suitable products and can be found online for reasonable prices with a little research. Its best to start with sparkling clean glass, PBW can be an excellent choice for this step, more on that later.

Next, take your glass and put about 6-8 drops of cranberry extract in, if your piece is really small start with less, then fill to your usual level. The water should be a medium pink color, not too dark or too light. Cranberry extract will enhance stacking bubbles a little better so testing this should be in your mind as you move forward.

Lastly, you will want to put a small amount of citric acid, aka sour salt, in the mix to help keep things fresh. Citric acid is a common food preservative and it gives sour candy it's "sour power". It can be found in supermarkets where canning goods are found, or at your local home brew store, or online.

I discovered in an experiment vaping through low PH ionized water that it kept things fresher for much longer. Citric acid lowers PH as well . . .

Anyhow, please let us know what you vape through, this thread is NOT limited to cranberry extract so if you are vaping through herbal tea, or flavored water, or anything else, please chime in here and we will all learn something new together. Please provide links to trusted suppliers and to current discounts.

I will be using this text to start my cranberry extract resource which will be updated regularly . . . :peace:

I hadn't even thought about anything else than just tap water, what a great writeup. Filling up a fresh forum with all these great posts is a really cool way of learning more and more about the this subject and I've learned a lot the last couple of days.

Couple of questions that popped up:
How many times do you change your water when you do it this way?
Does it affect the taste in anyway?
Is there a good way to prevent the buildup in the first part of your glass, the part before the water?

...as a result of your memorable accounts on that other site...whenever I use water ..I use cranberry...gotu kola....chamomile ...and ginko Leaf..followed with Rez block concentrate ...
..sometimes I'll add terpenes..most times I'll add cbd...all done with distilled water..my extracts are from botanic choice too..:smug:.

It depends on usage. Microbial growth can occur if you do not use a preservative of some kind like citric acid. I have one piece of glass here right now that the fluid is a week old, however, I have not used it much because I unpacked my entire glass collection.

The cranberry keeps you vaping medium fresher for longer. You probably will not notice a taste unless you use the @turk formula . . .

Ahhh you hit on something I forgot to say. This only works where your vaping medium touches your glass. Wet surfaces only. Dry surfaces will remain unchanged.

...yes mine has a taste...I can negate it by not using my terpines...but I enjoy them..

I have extensively explored BC Cranberryy extract.
I came to many positive conclusions, but also some negative.
The Cranberry kept the water from smelling fouls after a number of hits.
Prior to the Extract, after one hit the water smell nauseated me.
That was a big pro.... along with the glass not getting as much buildup.
The cons for me was bacterial growth if you leave the water pink for a number of days, bacterial colonies start in the water.
The second "red flag" (if you will) was that the cranberry extract allowed an amount of the Cannabinoids that "used to" stick to the walls, to instead go into solution with the water.
One reason besides odors, that I do not use water filtration, is that I can see visual evidence that I am not consuming all of the goods in my meds after it runs through water.
The fact that there are no residues in the "pink water" tells me some of the residues that should be in my lungs/body are remaining in the Cranberry/water mix.
I still bust out with the BC Cranberry extract on occasion, but I clean my glass immediately once finished., and I also use extreme heat to allow the most goods possible to get to me through the absorption/filtrration aspect if the cranberry (or other RezBlock, substitutes)

@Vitolo - Have you tried a little citric acid to keep that growth down? I agree with you that some of your meds do go into solution and can not be reclaimed, but how much is it compared to what would have stuck to your glass anyways. It would be interesting to find out which cannabinoids do this, my guess is its the heavier ones with higher boiling points.

I did try citric acid (upon your recommendation) at an earlier point. It did keep growth down, but still absorbed a minor amount of the constituents.
Since, I have stopped using water filtration to be sure I am getting all Cannabinoids directly into me.
(You know me, @t-dub ...I never cared much for filtration anyway)
To those turned off by the odors of used water in a bubbler... the Cranberry extract does help with that!

I've been using cranberry extract in my bubblers since Rezblock first came out (that old green formula). Cracks me up when people ask me 'what that pink stuff' is... one even thought it was wine.

I change out my water daily and don't bother with the citric acid. My glass is sparkly clean at all times because of it. Just a hot water rinse and I can go a few days before washing. I'm a bit nuts about keeping my glass clean so the least little buildup it's off to the bucket of Simple Green for a soak.

...the glass....must be clean!...

Interesting. I'll try and find me some cranberry extract around here. For now the glass did get a cleaning today after reading this topic. I should clean it more often that's for sure.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss. For instance I never thought about bacterial growth, not for moment until I read this. :thinker: Now I really want to keep things fresher in the water department, fresh water every day, no more excuses.

While I am not a fan of filtration, I do keep a D-20 filled with water as part of my "presentation"for the Yocan Torch.
Needless to say, when I use it at all, it get cleaned with 91% Iso and then dish soap and water (followed by a go with the shop-vac)
When it sits unused, I rinse and add clean water daily.

I wish there were a third choice for a simple "Yes, I use it on occasion"!

That's my position too, my friend. Buildup of nasty shit in the water over time was something that put my off (I clean my rigs every 1-2 days and change my water everyday anyway so this is less of an issue for me, but this is also part of why I do not need cranberry extract). I want my reclaim on the glass, not in the water. I use that claim for a variety of things and do not want to contaminate it with cranberry extract.

I use nothing but purified water in my rigs. I find that these solutions tend to be for people who don't clean their glass often enough  You don't get large claim buildup if you clean your rig every day or two and are dabbing at high enough temps (a lot of people that dab on quartz bangers with torches for example are causing large reclaim buildup with waste to taste style dabs, which recondense very quickly in the airpath of the rig).

I have been a committed CE user since I first tried it. I don't use the citric acid, and instead change the water every day. I keep meaning to get some and try it, but I never remember when I am somewhere that might have it. ;)

I can't help but wonder. Is there any possibility that rather than your vapor going into solution in the water that instead the same process of "bio-slipperiness" is preventing the water from absorbing the actives leaving them in the vapor?

I want it all in my lungs. BUT.. if there must be leftovers, like you I want to gather them.

It is an interesting concept, but I think it is aborbing. I am not an absorption specialist, however!:hmm:

I had a feeling you'd be of the same view as I am on this one, my friend. Waste not, want not!
