Singer, actor, producer and activist Harry Belafonte, who spawned a calypso craze in the U.S. with his music and blazed new trails for African American performers, died Tuesday of congestive heart failure at his Manhattan home. He was 96.
An award-winning Broadway performer and a versatile recording and concert star of the ’50s, the lithe, handsome Belafonte became one of the first Black leading men in Hollywood. He later branched into production work on theatrical films and telepics.

So much talent! All our favorites are dying off. Energetic, resilient and unique, she danced and sang to her own drummer. First woman on the cover of the Rolling Stone. A trail blazer for black women - all women. She just never gave up, such a fighter. . RIP great lady!

Astrud Gilberto, 'The Girl from Ipanema' singer, dies at 83

And for those only familiar with this song, or bossa nova in general, only from weddings and elevator music would be well advised to listen to the original recording of it on Getz/Gilberto. These Brazilians invented "cool" before there was "cool". The opening verses are sung by her husband, Joao, in Portuguese and are beyond beautiful.

I'm a Paul Rubens fan. I think he was very creative and I enjoyed his movies. PeeWee's Big Adventure was my favorite. "Large Marge" :-)

My life has had so many "bumps in the road" that I just can't hold his behavior against him (or anyone else). I never walked in his shoes.
He was certainly talented.

Is this post supposed to be in response to the sentiments I included in my initial post, or just sort of an "in general" type statement? Hard to tell w/o quotes....

Edit: You wanna know what's "funny"? My daughter, and son, 18.5 & 16.5years old both LOVED the Peewee movies on dvd growing up, big time, among their favorites! When I texted her the news/article that he died, she texted back, with typical palpable teenage sarcasm/snark, first:

"Omg no way how"

"Damn"

"Cancer"

"That sucks"

Then:

"Wait nvm I found out he was caught w child porn"

"Good riddance lul"

She has developed very strong opinions on the subject as she ages and is very passionate, and I'm not gong to try to stifle it either. She's an adult, she can make her own decisions...
