Lunacy Social Media like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram........

CarolKing

Always in search of the perfect vaporizer
I’ve only been on social media a little mostly on VA and another message board. Just a tiny bit on FB. It seems like FB is a good thing on one hand but it also does so much bad too. Great for families and friends to keep in contact all over the world. Wonderful for folks in the service. I hope this thread doesn’t get too political. That’s not why I posted this. I am alarmed by all the misinformation
and fabrications.

It seems to have gotten way out of control. Remember the saying you can’t yell fire in a theater.

Social media is what you make of it. I just unfollow any of my 'friends' or feeds that make my shit list.....which is usually something political. To me it's like engaging with someone regarding religion, no one is going to change the others mind, so why bother?

I mostly use FB to archive my photos....and to waste time at work sonce I have no true friends. But yeah, sometimes you just have to walk away. As they say: no one died and made you the fucktard whisperer

I do some forum stuff but otherwise view so called social media as a cesspool of vacuous blather. Twitter in particular.

For me, all of it started “back in the day” when I was a 12 year old socially inept kid who received a 300 baud modem as a gift. And then I discovered BBS’s and Fidonet.

I’ve been done with all of the never ending debates for a long time. I have an Instagram account that I pretty much use to view stupid memes. I was more active on Facebook but now use it for support related to health issues.

It will always be dangerous for kids at so many levels. The bullying is bad enough. And then there are the predators and dangerous types. I guess there’s also all the vanity too.

Where would all of these pretty catalog model types be if they were stuck with monochrome monitors, ASCII art, and dot matrix porn.

Twitter Partners With Feds On Campaign Flagging ‘Marijuana’ Searches While Giving ‘Alcohol’ A Pass

Twitter is partnering with a federal drug agency to promote substance misuse treatment resources when users of the social media platform search for “marijuana” or certain other substance-related keywords—but no such health warning appears with results for alcohol-connected terms.
In collaboration with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Twitter this week began adding a notification above relevant tweets on select drug terms that says, “If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, you are not alone.” It directs users to SAMHSA’s help line and website.

Drug policy reform advocates have pointed out that this messaging perpetuates stereotypes about drug use, indicating that any interest in these substances signals that users may have a problem warranting treatment. But it’s also the case that there’s an abundance of reasons that people might enter “marijuana” into a search beyond looking for ways to score some of the product for use, including wanting to follow relevant news on public policy debates about its legalization. And besides, the vast majority of people who consume cannabis are not addicted to or dependent on it and aren’t likely to appreciate the suggestion that they may need professional help.

While promoting substance misuse treatment isn’t necessarily problematic in and of itself, advocates are pushing back about the fact that Twitter chose to peg these notices to cannabis and other currently illegal drugs in particular while it allows alcohol brands to be promoted on its platform. Here’s what happens when you search for “vodka,” for example.

(CNN)The blame game over the Oregon wildfires is playing out across social media, and Facebook says it's stepping in to tackle some of the false claims circulating on its platform.
Law enforcement agencies have been flooded with calls about online rumors that members of Antifa, an anti-fascist, often far-left-wing movement, were arrested for setting fires across the state.

"Reports that extremists are setting wildfires in Oregon are untrue," the FBI Portland said in a tweet Friday.
Since the FBI and other law enforcement agencies confirmed the claims are false, Facebook spokesman Andy Stone said the platform will work to remove the rumors.

Big Tech has been facing tremendous pressure in recent years to tackle the spread of misinformation on their platforms.

Edit
what a bunch of BS. It’s called global warning. Unfortunately some people have actually been starting fires but it’s been regular crazy people doing it. Not an organization. The air is so think here I can’t go outside to go for a walk. I don’t even want to go out to water my plants.

Teenagers and young people fall for such crazy stuff! Don’t file your yer teeth. There’s a reason they aren’t completely even. Gives me a headache even thinking about filing my teeth.

I wiil have to admit when I was 8 months pregnant I did pee on Draino to see if I was going to have a boy or girl. It was so stinky! We had to spend an hour outside because it was so bad. We laughed a lot about that. I do understand. Someone told me it was a good idea. It was suppose to turn a certain color for a boy or a girl. I turned brown. :BangHead:Probably my best friend suggested it!:angel2:

ssy_self/Tiktok) TikTok is filled with lots of weird and wonderful beauty hacks, from curling your hair with a dressing gown belt to creating your own freckles with fake tan.

However, a recent trend doing the rounds has left dental professionals worried. One of the latest beauty hacks on the platform sees people filing their teeth down with a nail file, to make them appear more even. Dentists have expressed concern for this new DIY procedure and many professionals on TikTok have even posted videos about the dangers around it. Filing down your teeth using a nail file is incredibly damaging and could cause permanent damage to the tooth structure as well as the enamel around the edge of the tooth.
You cannot regrow tooth enamel, so the damage is irreversible. ‘Any cosmetic contouring should only be done by a professional with appropriate sterilised instruments.’
Sunny goes on to explain the repercussions which could occur, as a result of DIY tooth filing. He adds: ‘You may have to seek professional dental treatment to help repair any damage.

Hi there, i think social media really helps us in our lives. It only depends how you look at that.

I don't think social media affects our lives somehow. We ourselves create our lives and our future. It's up to you how you'll choose the information out of social media and what will you do with it or feel about it. I'm a photographer of wild nature and i have an acc on instagram. Instagram helps me a lot! My profit depends on my popularity on this platform so i buy instagram followers in order to increase the number of my followers and statistics of my account. I don't see nothing bad in doing that. I make really nice photos and social media helps me to have more clients and increases my popularity and profitability.

Instagram keeps deleting Canada’s legal cannabis accounts

Instagram continues to frustrate legal cannabis companies in Canada, with what some business owners are deeming to be random and arbitrary enforcement actions.

Leafly spoke with three legal cannabis retailers who have had their accounts deleted in the past few weeks, one a non-medical store in Alberta, one a medical cannabis retailer in Ontario, and the third a non-medical retailer in Toronto.

The actions, they all say, came with no opportunity to appeal or even get details on the decision.

Legal retailers locked out for violating Instagram community guidelines

Ryan Roch, the owner of Lake City Cannabis, an independent cannabis retailer in Alberta, says he recently woke up to a message from Instagram telling him he needed to change his phone number.

“Instagram asked me for a phone number change and when that happened and I changed the phone number, it locked me out of the account and said we had violated the community guidelines and then that was that,” explains Roch.

“I can’t even appeal. I found a random email form on Instagram and that’s been the only way to appeal it that I’ve found, but I haven’t heard back anything.”

Roch says he doesn’t have any idea why the account was taken down, but is already creating a new backup account, and reaching out to his followers and customers through other social media channels and via email.

Andrew Rhodes, Co-Owner at The Neighbourhood Joint in Toronto says the same thing happened to them recently.

“It doesn’t make a huge impact on our business but it does hurt,” says Rhodes. “We are a legal business following the rules and although we don’t rely on Instagram for anything specific, it is a great way to reach a certain demographic of the population.

“Going forward we will continue to use Instagram and facebook but will make a concerted effort to use other social media platforms that do not discriminate against legal entities as our primary focus.”

Navigating Instagram isn’t easy for legal cannabis companies

Angelo Muscari, the co-founder of Hybrid Pharm in Ontario, a pharmacy that provides access to cannabis for medical purposes, says their Instagram account recently suffered the same fate. Like Roch, he says he woke up to a message from Instagram saying his account had been deleted and provided no opportunity to challenge the decision.

“It’s a big circle of nowhere,” says Muscari about opportunities to appeal the deletion. “All the links just send you back to a help centre or FAQ section. There’s no number, no email, nowhere to make a veto decision. It’s very complicated and frustrating.”

Instagram provided no response to a request for comment. Their Terms of Services states that it does not allow “people or organizations to use their platform to advertise or sell marijuana, regardless of the seller’s state or country.” Their terms of service also states that if you have had an account removed for a violation of Instagram’s policy, you cannot open a new account.

Numerous legal and illegal cannabis companies have thrived for years on the platform and enforcement appears arbitrary, at best. Muscari says he suspects it could be the result of people reporting accounts to get them taken down, rather than proactive enforcement by Instagram.

“Honestly at this point, I do think that’s what happened. Somebody is just a little hurt or offended or just maybe not the biggest fan.

Muscari says he managed several Instagram accounts for different cannabis companies and has had individual posts removed, or been given warnings, but this is the first time he’s faced an account being deleted. Unlike those other actions, which he considers more of a slap on the wrist, this decision is permanent and cannot be challenged.

“Unlike having your account put on hold for a bit, the message I got said ‘your account has been deleted for not following our terms. You won’t be able to log into this account and no one will be able to see it. We’re unable to restore accounts that are deleted for these types of violations.”

“I think the biggest thing for anyone who has had their account taken away like this, is just why? If you can at least have a human call or email sent to say this is the violation would really bring some clarity so I don’t make that mistake in the future.”

Roch, of Lake City Cannabis, says he’s learned not to rely on just one Instagram account, or just one social media platform.

“If anything, my tale is a cautionary one,” says Roch. “Everyone should be preparing to be taken down. Maybe that means having multiple accounts, making sure you have an email list of your customers, making sure you have other ways they can communicate with you, making sure you’re taking the time into those other channels and mediums.”

Roch says his store’s Instagram account was restored on Friday the 20th, although no explanation was provided. The same day, his store’s Facebook page received a three-day ban after sharing a cross-post from his re-instated Instagram account. Facebook owns Instagram.

Even though it’s frustrating, Muscari also says that with social media being such a popular mode of communication, he has no choice but to start a new account.

“As much as I would love to give up on social, we have no choice but to start over,” he says. “We live in a time now where social media controls a lot of what people see and what people think and how they obtain their education, their access to information. Any company not willing to restart, I think it would be another nail in their coffin, unfortunately.”

It makes life difficult when you can’t believe a lot of what you read. These companies need to take some accountability. Free speech can only go so far. Can I yell hijacker on an airplane or bomb? No!

People don't understand what social media is made for, nothing is free, they think they are users and that's is quite wrong, they are the product.

Am I on social media?
Yes....
Why?
To make lots of money....not spend it. :newspaper:
