Lunacy We all gotta eat, right? (Food Porn)

squiby the food is amazing here, traveling on ferry to the Islands, fresh catch nothing compares. Turkish coffee hits the spot after a good lamb dish too!

You could also serve those short ribs with a creamy polenta or mashed potatoes.

Mash & braised ribs is the ticket. Steamed broccolini as a side. Yum yum.

I read somewhere Americans rarely have lamb to eat? Seems odd to me as lamb is a tasty animal indeed & it is hard to beat a roast lamb shoulder. Now I feel like Lebanese for dinner but will settle for some lamb chops funnily enough.

BTW @Squiby spatzle & sauerkraut is the shit. Especially with duck or pork. Hate those but bread dumplings though.

dont believe everything u read my friend:tongue:
used to cook at fancy country club for well to do Americans, every friday we would go through 4 huge white tubs fully marinated lamb chops, all grilled off and eaten just as quick as it was thrown on da grill. Shoulder is good when on a budget, chops are for those special occasions for me. The Turks do it right in Istanbul, all in the seasoning. Lebanese?! Sounds good, Chops for the win mate!

I used to go to a Mexican restaurant (long since closed) that served up something they called 'Botanas.' Come to find out, botana actually means appetizer or snack in Spanish. So what we were having was basically a vegetarian version of nachos lol. See? Never too old too learn something.

Corn chips, green chilies, refried beans, lots of cheese, whatever veggies you have in the fridge (in this case, red onion, peppers, tomato and avacado) and some black olives, jalapenos and hot sauce drizzled on top. They will forever be 'Botanas' in my house. Long live the Botana. :headbang:

Had this on some lamb last night with roasted Yukon gold potato wedges and asparagus.
The reserved marinade is an awesome dip for the spuds.

@Bcbud that marinade looks awesome! Do you think it would be equally good on chicken? Or should I go for the lamb?

And @psychonaut ... your's looks pretty darn tasty as well. Is that a barbecue type sauce base? Or chili? Or....

Never used it on chicken but I have used it on lamb dozens of times and with some nice fresh mint it is crazy tasty.
I believe it would be stellar on boneless skinless chicken thighs.

Thanks @momofthegoons It's BBQ sauce based. I like to use either sweet baby rays original if I'm serving it for guests, or devil's spit for us at home since we like it spicy. 1 part bbq sauce to 1 part smoked brisket juis (fat separated), and 1 tsp of dry rub per lb of brisket used.

This is on the grill tonight the sauce is a little sweet but the brining flavours are great.

I'm making @momofthegoons recipe for short ribs.

Excuse the mess. I got a little crazy chopping my veg for the mirepoix.

The veg isn't sautéed as such, I wanted to bring out the sweetness of the vegetables without browning or over cooking.

Can't wait to get these in the slow cooker/crock pot tomorrow.

Thanks @momofthegoons!

@BD9 I made a batch of Shorts Ribs using @momofthegoons recipe and I also had great success with it. Anyone who likes food should try it! Highly recommended.

Well, Christmas is coming and we had a holiday cookie baking day. It's an annual event, we make loads of cookies, then arrange the variety on paper plates, package them up with cellophane and ribbon and give them away to the local service people, the garbage collector, Postmaster, local businesses etc. Anyone who drops by will leave with a plate of cookies. This year we had 10 women and 5 children. The kids decorated dozens of sugar cookies while the adults baked cookies and squares and fudge. Here's a small sample of what was produced and laid out in the sunroom to set/cool.
