Lunacy We all gotta eat, right? (Food Porn)

I was taken to a local restaurant last night, Mabel Gray, for a tasting menu. The chef, James Rigato, has been up for a James Beard award for the last 6 years. All I can say is... omg.

We started with a lovely drink made from vodka, Aperol, Campari, grapefruit and a few other items I can't remember lol.

Followed by oysters two ways. Now... I got a little excited.. and ate my oysters before I remembered to take a pic....

But if you are interested, the recipes are in this article from wine enthusiast. I've gotta say that the raw oyster with the Nuác Châm was absolutely amazing.

This was followed by a salad of heirloom tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and endive with a parsley pesto, olive oil and balsamic.

After this, a duck soup was served. No ordinary soup... it was a rich broth with ground duck and bits of carrots and onion served over a bed of wild rice with parmesan, a smear of yogurt with lemon and chives.

Which was followed by a skewer of scallops and capicola smothered with a pesto, pickled grapes and mustard seed. I'm pretty sure there was some chili oil in there as well.

Next came a duck slider. So darn good... deep fried duck, home made bread and butter pickle and remoulade.

At this point they gave us a little something to cleanse out palate.

Before serving us yet another duck course. This was my least favorite. For some reason they thought cumin was a good spice for this duck and it was overpowering. Plus my duck was overcooked. Served with an odd 'hummus' made from something other than chickpeas... and some very hard seeds sprinkled on top. The saving grace were the pomegranate seeds that cut through all that cumin heaviness.

And last, but certainly not least, was some sticky pudding with toffee sauce, creme anglaise, banana chips and a fried sage leaf, sprinkled with fresh nutmeg.

Wow, @momofthegoons - Nice!
I have not taken photos of any of my food in a while, because I lost food stamps after incarceration, so must shop more cautiously.
Your post made me wet myself!:lmao:

What is meatloaf.. apart from a dead singer..
Its not a uk thing.. is it meat mixed with bread ?
It is ground pork, veal and beef mixed with egg, bread crumbs and spices. I like to put sautéed onions and red pepper in as well. And I top it with a chipotle barbecue sauce. Meatloaf was originally 'invented' to help stretch your protein so you could have more servings. But it's true comfort food for many Americans lol. From what I can see, it was developed back in the 1800's and was 'modeled' after the meatball.

Had duck last night.. been a while...
