Missouri cop trying to help duck and ducklings cross busy highway busts driver for pot

Man in a skunky-smelling car pulled up right behind cruiser parked on side of roadway

A Missouri driver is likely questioning his decision to pull up behind a parked cruiser after a cop sniffed out a suspiciously skunky smell coming from his vehicle and busted him for illegal cannabis.

While on patrol earlier this month, an officer with the Smithville Police Department (SPD) spied a mama duck and her ducklings trying to cross Highway 169, according to a police statement.

Presumably wanting to serve and protect, the officer activated the patrol car lights to slow any traffic and allow time for the family to complete its treacherous trek.
However, the duck apparently changed her mind. While parked on the side of the highway to make sure the duck family made it back into the adjacent tree line, a vehicle pulled over behind the officer, SPD reports.

A short video clip posted by police shows the officer approaching the duck family in his vehicle as they safely make their way to the trees and out of harm’s way.
It’s not clear if the driver thought he had been pulled over or if he had stopped to check on the officer.
Nonetheless, the officer decided to check on the driver to ensure everything was all right when a strong cannabis smell was detected coming from the vehicle.

“Since the driver was not in legal possession of the marijuana, it was seized and the driver held responsible,” notes the SPD, which does not specify the amount.
“This is just another example of how officers try to make sure that everyone in our community, person or animal, gets home safely every day,” the SPD reports.
While medicinal marijuana is legal in Missouri, recreational weed is not.

Legal MO 2022 is calling for the plant to be legalized for residents 21 and older to possess, purchase, consume and cultivate. The group would also like to see automatic expungement for Missourians with non-violent cannabis-related offences, new business licences for small business owners and among disadvantaged populations, and that all new licence-holders be selected at random by lottery.

As it stands, a first offence for possessing up to 10 grams of cannabis is a misdemeanour charge and a $645 fine, with a second offence punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,580 fine, according to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML).

If the amount on hand is between 35 grams and 30 kilograms, the charge is a felony carrying a maximum of seven years in prison and a $12,900 fine. Historically, having this amount of bud has been charged as intent to distribute.

With regard to the duck and her brood, it wasn’t the first time cops have made a weed-related discovery while rounding up animals.
Last year in Memphis, police trying to round up five wayward pigs that were making themselves at home on a property not their own found illicit cannabis plants sprouting outdoors on the property.

Yet another pig, this one in Utah, attracted sheriff’s deputies who had been called by a local animal control staff to help corral a domestic pig.
As deputies tracked the stray pig roaming the area, they located an unspecified number of cannabis plants. Obtaining a warrant, officers later returned to execute a property search and collected the plants inside.

A dog and the dog’s bite were at the centre of another incident in the U.K.

After housing association staff visited the apartment to check out the report, they found it was being sublet and the new tenant was growing cannabis behind a false wall. Last month, the man was sentenced to three years and three months in jail in connection with the discovery of cannabis, amphetamine and MDMA.

Neil deGrasse Tyson Wonders What Other Plants Can Get You High That People Just Haven’t Tried Smoking Y

Neil deGrasse Tyson might be best known as an astrophysicist whose expertise lies in the cosmos beyond. But he says there may be mysteries yet to be unraveled here on earth when it comes to undiscovered plant life with psychedelic potential.

On an episode of his podcast StarTalk, Tyson and Harvard University neuroscientist Staci Gruber talked about marijuana has been used for its psychoactive properties for thousands of years. It got Tyson thinking: what kind of plants and fungi might still be out there with untapped psychedelic potential?

“How many plants out there remain undiscovered simply because we don’t have enough people saying, ‘now, let’s smoke that, let’s smoke this, let’s smoke this?'” he mused. “I mean, there’s gotta be.”

Gruber entertained the question, agreeing that there’s “huge potential in botanicals, and I think that we see that with some other things—primarily these days, we hear about it in the hallucinogenic space like ayahuasca or these other sort of natural things, mushrooms.”

“There’s tremendous interest in terms of therapeutic application,” she said, adding that such interest has been evident for millennia.

Of course, while cannabis has survived throughout human civilization, it stands to reason that many species that might have contained psychoactive have gone extinct. A study from 2019 estimated that nearly 600 species of plants have been lost in the past 250 years alone.

Even so, more plants with potential therapeutic or psychoactive applications could still be out there, going undiscovered without a trepidatious human to consume them, Tyson half-joked. (The better course of action for undiscovered plants would be to subject them to significant phytochemical analysis before even considering clinical trials, but the point of the podcast conversation was to explore an entertaining hypothetical.)

Tyson has made drug policy and science a consistent theme of his podcast. Late last year, for example, he also spoke with Gruber about the intersection of cannabis science, policy and sports. And he said that he wasn’t surprised about President Joe Biden’s opposition to marijuana legalization because he’s from the “Reefer Madness generation.”
Also last year, he wondered aloud on his podcast whether non-human animals willingly take psychedelic mushrooms and whether eating enough cicadas infected by hallucinogenic fungi would create a psychoactive effect.

Tyson also told TMZ in 2018 that he doesn’t think people should smoke marijuana in space.

The popular scientific figure first publicly endorsed cannabis legalization in 2017 in response to a question submitted by Marijuana Moment’s editor, arguing that “relative to other things that are legal, there’s no reason for [cannabis] to ever have been made illegal in the system of laws.”

However, Tyson has also said that he doesn’t partake in recreational use himself.

Kinda adds new meaning to the phrase "smoke 'em if you got 'em" LOL

U.S. Army Wants To Make Sniper Uniforms Out Of Hemp

Army soldiers aren’t allowed to use hemp-derived CBD even if its federally legal—but the military branch is now asking for information about using hemp yarn in uniforms to help camouflage snipers.

In a request for information (RFI) posted last week, the Army said that it’s interested in exploring alternative materials to improve uniforms used by snipers to hide from enemy combatants in close proximity. Hemp and jute are among the materials that it thinks could support the “Operational Clothing and Individual for the Improved Ghillie System (IGS).”

“Interest is specifically in a yarn/twine/thread used to break up the Snipers outline made from Jute, Hemp or similar natural fiber,” the notice says.

The Army’s Product Manager Soldier Clothing and Individual Equipment division is “seeking approximately a 48 lb Jute Count, 3 ply, Jute, Hemp or similar natural fiber, yarn/twine in a natural color,” it continues. “The current demand for the Jute/Hemp yarn is 400,000 yards.”

“The IGS is a new and improved Sniper concealment system developed to meet the concealment needs of the Sniper community. The IGS shall have amendable camouflage materials (e.g. jute, hemp, or similar natural fiber) that can be used to change the appearance of the sniper. The IGS Jute, Hemp or other natural fiber will help conceal the Sniper and Scout during missions allowing them to remain undetected within close proximity of the enemy forces.”

Hemp was federally legalized under the 2018 Farm Bill. And while many have come to associate the crop with its derivatives like CBD oil, there’s growing interest in its other industrial applications, especially given its unique durability, versatility and low environmental impact. Businesses have been marketing everything from hemp fabric in clothing to hemp concrete for buildings.

Now the Army wants to see whether the crop has potential to better camouflage its snipers. The RFI says that hemp yarn can be spun domestically or imported from other countries, unlike jute which needs to be spun in the U.S. even if the fiber comes from a foreign source.

“The material shall not present a health hazard to the Soldier and must show compatibility with prolonged, direct skin contact,” it says. Also, the material cannot “add significant amount of weight” to the uniforms. Responses to the RFI are due by July 27.

House Appropriations Committee have also recently identified the potential of the cannabis crop as a cost-effective alternative to plastics, including language in three recent spending bill reports that encourage research into using domestically grown hemp to reduce dependence on plastic imported from China, for example.

Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH), a co-chair of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus and member of the Appropriations Committee, is spearheading that initiative.

Separately, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently awarded funds to researchers to develop 3D-printed hempcrete to be used in building affordable housing.

DOE is also sponsoring a project to develop hemp fiber insulation that’s designed to be better for the environment and public health than conventional preparations are, the agency announced late last year.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also announced last year that it was awarding a Washington State-based company a $100,000 grant to support the development of sustainable bricks made from industrial hemp.

But when it comes to hemp and the military, the Department of Defense (DOD) and various branches under the agency have made clear that there’s one use that’s off limits to service members: consuming hemp-derived CBD products.

In 2019, DOD announced the policy barring all active and reserve service members from using hemp products, including CBD. DOD more broadly reaffirmed that CBD is off limits to service members in earlier notices published in 2020.

About one year after hemp was federally legalized, the Air Force sent out a notice that similarly warned against using CBD products that are commonly found on the market. A Massachusetts base of the Air Force told pilots last year that they could face disciplinary action for possessing any type of hemp product, even if it’s “for your pet.”

Officials with the military branch also said the previous year that it wants its members to be extra careful around “grandma’s miracle sticky buns” that might contain marijuana.

The Navy, for its part, issued an initial notice in 2018 informing ranks that they’re barred from using CBD and hemp products no matter their legality. Then in 2020 it released an update explaining why it enacted the rule change.

The Naval War College has gone so far as to warn Sailors and Marines about new hemp products on the market, issuing a notice earlier this month that says members can drink a new Pepsi-owned Rockstar energy drink that contains hemp seed oil.

The Coast Guard said that sailors can’t use marijuana or visit state-legal dispensaries.

A factor that may have influenced these policy updates is that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration released guidance to federal agency drug program coordinators in 2019 that outlined concerns about THC turning up in CBD products and causing failed drug tests. The agency issued an updated warning in 2020 after several more states voted to legalize marijuana.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has separately faced criticism over its stance on cannabis issues.

In March, for example, VA made clear that it won’t provide support for treatment involving marijuana as part of a new grants program aimed at preventing veteran suicide.

VA’s position on marijuana has been a source of consistent frustration for advocates and veteran service organizations who have been pushing for expanded research into the therapeutic potential of cannabis.

House and Senate committees held joint hearings in March to hear from veterans service organizations (VSOs) about how Congress and the federal government can better serve their constituents, and several of the groups brought up the need to ease restrictions on marijuana.

The testimony echoes what the VSOs have repeatedly raised with lawmakers. The specifics ranged in scope between the various groups, but the overall message was made clear: military veterans uniquely stand to benefit from marijuana treatment and it’s time for Congress to do something about it.

Separately, military veterans would be “encouraged” to discuss medical marijuana treatment without the fear of losing federal benefits under a recent bill being sponsored by Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA). The main thrust of the legislation is to codify existing policies that allow VA doctors to talk about medical cannabis with patients as well as protections for veterans who are candid about their history with marijuana treatment. By doing so, it would enshrine these polices into law so that they could not later be changed administratively by future VA leaders.

Meanwhile, a key House committee approved two amendments to a must-pass defense spending bill last month that deal with marijuana- related issues in the armed services.

Both measures cleared the House Armed Services Committee on voice votes during a markup of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The first, from Rep. Anthony Brown (D-MD), concerns cannabis sentencing standards under military code. The other from Moulton calls for a DOD-led study into the medical efficacy of cannabis over opioids for certain conditions.

Sex and CANNABIS = BLISS 4 CIVILIZATION

Now look....this article came right off of the 420 Intel daily email and it does sort of hoist both sides of the political spectrum on a the same petard. And, I thought it was hilarious that Snoop Dog is pumping this up on his IG acct. Apparently the Dog thinks its hilarious also.

The man who made “indo” a household word thought these weed pouches were hysterical enough to share with millions of his fellow stoners

Cannabis connoisseur Snoop Dogg sure seemed to hate Donald Trump during his administration, but he just embraced one of the former president’s most famous attack lines against current POTUS Joe Biden.

The Long Beach rapper, actor, and entrepreneur used his Instagram feed on Sunday to endorse a “Sleepy Joe OG” cannabis bag. It’s decorated with Ukrainian, Chinese and Russian flags, and copy boasts, “You won’t even remember what country you are in!”

The tagline for the fake Cannabis brand reads: “Where am I?”

Snoop Dogg’s feed, which is followed by 74.6 million people, is full of fun memes and videos with little or no commentary from the lifelong Angelino, and this post was no exception. 558,000 people and counting think it’s a riot, too.

For those Angelinos who want a “Sleepy Joe” bag of their own to carry their finest indica-dominant strains, they’re available at multiple online retailers. Cannabis cultivators can even purchase seeds for a real-life Sleepy Joe strain. Or drop it like its hot in favor of packing a pouch with Snoop Dogg OG—a 70 percent indica-dominant hybrid strain that is said to contain genetics from Lemon OG and Sour Diesel.

Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Broadus, honored his Los Angeles roots while performing at the Super Bowl halftime show earlier this year with other hip-hop heavyweights, including Eminem, who recently collaborated with Snoop on new single From the D 2 the LBC, and it’s all about smoking that bomb weed. On the business side, the famous stoner co-founded venture capitalist group Casa Verde Capital to fund various cannabis-related startups around the world

USA Today reverses course and calls for End of Cannabis Prohibition

he USA Today editorial board has reversed its past position on cannabis and come out in support of ending cannabis prohibition.

While the newspaper flagged potential health problems caused by cannabis use, it argued that the "misguided war on drugs" continues to inflict harm on black and brown communities in the U.S. "Given the risks associated with marijuana, the nation needs the federal government to shift its posture from prohibition to regulation," the July 31 editorial said.

The article urged Congress to take action. The stand marks a policy reversal by the newspaper in editorials published in 2012, 2016 and 2018. The AdvisorShares Pure US Cannabis ETF MSOS, +3.95% is down 53.8% in 2022, mostly on bearish sentiment around U.S. legalization. The Nasdaq COMP, -0.16% has lost 21.1% of its value this year.

Man Uses Weed Vending Machine at Home, Made $2,000 Per Day for 4 Years. Then Gets Arrested.

With the legalization of cannabis spreading across the country, entrepreneurs are ready and waiting. But, before you decide to go out and start selling it- make sure it’s legal in your state! Recently, a man from Detroit was arrested, and he was selling weed from a vending machine attached to his home. While marijuana can be purchased recreationally in Michigan, it needs to be sold through legal channels with proper licensing.

Reportedly, the man was earning around $2,000 every single day, and he had been doing this for over 4 years. The man in question was arrested in late April and charged with illegally possessing guns.

An agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives stated, “The man owned and operated the marijuana (weed) vending machine attached to the residence for four years, making approximately $2,000 per day.” But this brings up an interesting question, how did the cops know about this business? Apparently, they had been making a couple of purchases to gather evidence.

The agents acted on a tip and found the man in possession of 18 firearms, ammunition, and several pounds of marijuana, all of which were seized. The man was later released on bond.

Chinese Police Enlist Drug-Sniffing Squirrels

The city of Chongqing is training a team of six red squirrels.

Forget the hounds. Police in China are releasing the squirrels.

Law enforcement in the city of Chongqing reportedly announced that it is training a team of drug-sniffing squirrels to help locate illicit substances and contraband.

Insider reports that the police dog brigade in the city, located in southwestern China, “now has a team of six red squirrels to help them sniff out drugs in the nooks and crannies of warehouses and storage units.”

According to Insider, “Chongqing police told the state-linked media outlet The Paper that these squirrels are small and agile, and able to search through tiny spaces in warehouses and storage units that dogs cannot reach,” and that the “squirrels have been trained to use their claws to scratch boxes in order to alert their handlers if they detect drugs, the police said.”

“Squirrels have a very good sense of smell. However, it’s less mature for us to train rodents for drug search in the past in terms of the technology,” said Yin Jin, a handler with the police dog brigade of the Hechuan Public Security Bureau in Chongqing, as quoted by the Chinese state-affiliated English newspaper Global Times.

“Our self-developed training system can be applied to the training of various animals,” Yin added.

The newspaper noted that in contrast to drug dogs, “squirrels are small and agile, which makes them good at searching high places for drugs.”

According to Insider, “China’s drug-sniffing squirrels may well be the first of their kind,” although “animals and insects other than dogs have also been used to detect dangerous substances like explosives.”

“In 2002, the Pentagon backed a project to use bees to detect bombs. Meanwhile, Cambodia has deployed trained rats to help bomb-disposal squads trawl minefields for buried explosives,” Insider reported. “It is unclear if the Chongqing police intends to expand its force of drug-sniffing squirrels. It is also unclear how often the squirrel squad will be deployed.”

China is known for its strict and punitive anti-drug laws.

According to the publication Health and Human Rights Journal, “drug use [in China] is an administrative and not criminal offense; however, individuals detained by public security authorities are subject to coercive or compulsory ‘treatment.’”

The journal explains: “This approach has been subject to widespread condemnation, including repeated calls over the past decade by United Nations (UN) agencies, UN human rights experts, and human rights organizations for the country to close compulsory drug detention centers and increase voluntary, community-based alternatives. Nonetheless, between 2012 and 2018, the number of people in compulsory drug detention centers in China remained virtually unchanged, and the number enrolled in compulsory community-based treatment rose sharply.”

“In addition to these approaches, the government enters all people detained by public security authorities for drug use in China into a system called the Drug User Internet Dynamic Control and Early Warning System, or Dynamic Control System (DCS),” the journal continues. “This is a reporting and monitoring system launched by the Ministry of Public Security in 2006. Individuals are entered into the system regardless of whether they are dependent on drugs or subject to criminal or administrative detention; some individuals who may be stopped by public security but not formally detained may also be enrolled in the DCS”

The Dynamic Control System “acts as an extension of China’s drug control efforts by monitoring the movement of people in the system and alerting police when individuals, for example, use their identity documents when registering at a hotel, conducting business at a government office or bank, registering a mobile phone, applying for tertiary education, or traveling,” according to the journal.

‘Best job in the world’ offers £88,000 a year for a ‘cannabis sommelier’ to smoke weed all day – but there’s a catch

TOUTED as the most "intoxicating" job on earth, one company is searching for employees to be "professional smokers".

A German company has advertised a position for a "cannabis sommelier", offering a salary up to £88,000.

The company claims it's looking for a weed expert for quality assurance of its products.

Cologne-based Cannamedical sells medicinal cannabis to German pharmacies, and wants the new employee to "smell, feel and smoke" the product.

CEO David Henn told Bild: "We are looking for someone who continuously monitors the standards of our growers in the sourcing countries of Australia, Canada, Portugal, Macedonia and Denmark.

"Here in Germany, he should also check the quality of the material delivered.”

Cannabis enthusiasts have flooded the company with applications for the odd position.

But there's a catch: the lucky hire must already be a cannabis patient with a licence in Germany to smoke weed legally.

Germany's health minister made headlines last year for proposing cannabis legalisation for "recreational usage".

Karl Lauterbach has unveiled proposals to decriminalise the possession of up to 30 grams of cannabis and allow the sale of the substance to adults.

It would make Germany the second European Union country to legalise cannabis after Malta.

According to a survey presented by the official, an estimated 4 million adults use cannabis in Germany.

Weed has been decriminalised for personal use in a number of countries, including the Netherlands and Portugal, which decriminalised the use of all drugs in 2001.

In 2019, an American company posted a position paying £3000 per month to smoke their cannabis each day.

American Marijuana said they were looking for someone who "can smoke" but also has "extensive knowledge" about the semi-legal drug.

In their hunt for someone to sample their products, they even claim to have approached celebrity stoners like Snoop Dogg.

Dwight Blake, who is coordinating the search, said everyone he's told about the opportunity so far has replied, "Count me in!"

He told The Sun Online: "Everyone is going crazy about smoking weed.

"And getting paid to do just that (and a little more) makes it all the more alluring.

FFS...what happened to peace and love stoners, eh? haha

Vehicle smashes into Cannabis dispensary in robbery attempt

SANTA ROSA - Multiple law enforcement agencies joined forces on Monday to try to catch several suspects who had attempted to rob a cannabis dispensary in Santa Rosa, the Santa Rosa Police Department said.

All of the suspects are still outstanding.

SRPD was notified at 3:18 a.m. of a possible attempted burglary at a marijuana dispensary located in the 1800 block of Ferdinand Court. A vehicle had rammed the gates of the business and four vehicles with covered license plates then entered the parking lot.

According to police, an armed security guard at the site yelled at the suspects as they got out of their vehicles, but then the suspects got back into their vehicles and fled before police arrived.

The security guard provided a description of the vehicles and surrounding agencies were notified, SRPD said.

A witness reported seeing four vehicles with their license plates covered exit U.S. Route 101 at Bicentennial Way. A Santa Rosa officer patrolling another dispensary on Piner Road saw a group of vehicles matching the description of the suspects' cars, noting that their license plates were covered as well.

SRPD attempted to make a stop of the vehicles, but they entered Highway 101 going south. Officers pursued the vehicles at speeds that reached approximately 100 mph, according to police.

During the chase, one vehicle exited the freeway at Todd Road and police lost sight of it and ended the pursuit. The remaining three vehicles continued on the freeway until they reached the Cotati Grade, where police lost sight of the vehicles due to fog.

At this point, the Sonoma Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit and followed the vehicles into Petaluma. A Petaluma officer successfully deployed a spike strip that disabled one of the cars; two of the occupants of that vehicle fled into a nearby wooded area and were not located.

CHP were later called to a vehicle on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 that was blocking the freeway; SRPD officers learned that this vehicle was identified as one of the vehicles from the earlier pursuit and had run out of gas. Police believe that another vehicle picked up the occupants of that car.

The vehicles in question are described as a black mid-size SUV, two silver SUVs and a black Mercedes Benz sedan.

Not really "weird" news but I wasn't sure where else to put it.

And sports leagues are run by suits and suits are risk averse and only follow and never lead....this is long overdue.

The NBA Is Lifting Its Ban On Marijuana In New Deal With Players Union, According To Report

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is reportedly removing marijuana from its list of banned substances and will no longer drug test players for it as part of a new seven-year collective bargaining agreement.

The move, first reported on Saturday by Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, formally codifies what has been the league’s decision to temporarily suspend cannabis testing for the past three seasons.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver signaled in late 2020 that the policy could eventually become permanent after the league initially suspended cannabis testing when players competed in a quarantined “bubble” in Orlando at the start of the coronavirus pandemic earlier that year.

“We decided that, given all the things that were happening in society, given all the pressures and stress that players were under, that we didn’t need to act as Big Brother right now,” he said at the time. “I think society’s views around marijuana has changed to a certain extent.”

Rather than mandate blanket tests, the commissioner said the league would be reaching out to players who show signs of problematic dependency, not those who are “using marijuana casually.”

Now, according to Charania, “NBA players will no longer be prohibited for marijuana under the new seven-year Collective Bargaining Agreement.”
“It’s been removed from the anti-drug testing program, a process that began during 2019-20 season,” he reported.
NBA and the National Basketball Players Association announced earlier on Saturday that they “reached a tentative agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, pending ratification by players and team governors,” but that details won’t be released until a term sheet is finalized.

Michele Roberts, a onetime head of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) who also joined the board of the major cannabis company Cresco Labs in 2020, previously predicted that a formal change to codify the policy could come soon.

In 2021, it was announced that the online marijuana marketplace Weedmaps is teaming up with NBA star Kevin Durant for a multi-year partnership that’s aimed at destigmatizing cannabis and showcasing the plant’s potential value for “athlete wellness and recovery.”

This latest action from NBA comes as the national discussion about cannabis testing policies for athletes continues to unfold—an issue that made international headlines following the suspension of U.S. runner Sha’Carri Richardson from participating in the Olympics over a positive THC test.

The runner said that she’d feel “blessed and proud” if the attention her case raised would affect a policy change for other athletes. Even the White House and President Joe Biden himself weighed in on the case, suggesting that there’s a question about whether the marijuana ban should “remain the rules.”
However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) decided last year to keep marijuana on the list of banned substances for international athletes following a scientific review and a determination that cannabis use “violates the spirit of sport.”

Elon Musk delays launch of SpaceX Starship rocket to coincide with 4/20

Monday’s planned launch of the Starship rocket was delayed to take place on 4/20.

The test flight of SpaceX’s highly anticipated Starship rocket—eventually en route to the moon and Mars—was delayed from its original launch date on Monday and rescheduled for a new day: April 20.

The rocket remains on the launchpad located in Cameron County, Texas, approximately 17 miles east of Brownsville, while engineers get the rocket’s pressurized system ready again, which unexpectedly froze. “A pressurant valve appears to be frozen, so unless it starts operating soon, no launch today,” Musk initially tweeted Monday.

“SpaceX is targeting as soon as Thursday, April 20 for the first flight test of a fully integrated Starship and Super Heavy rocket from Starbase in Texas,” the company posted. “The 62 minute launch window opens at 8:28 a.m. CT and closes at 9:30 a.m. CT.” The fact that it will launch on April 20 is “perhaps inevitable,” Musk tweeted in reply to the announcement.

What makes Starship unique is its fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit. Musk and the SpaceX team believe that humanity will return to the Moon and travel to Mars. This particular test will help SpaceX improve the probability of success in the future.

“To date, the SpaceX team has completed multiple sub-orbital flight tests of Starship’s upper stage from Starbase, successfully demonstrating an unprecedented approach to controlled flight,” SpaceX wrote. “These flight tests helped validate the vehicle’s design, proving Starship can fly through the subsonic phase of entry before re-lighting its engines and flipping itself to a vertical configuration for landing.”

SpaceX explained why there are so many factors that can delay a space flight.

“In addition to the testing of Starship’s upper stage, the team has conducted numerous tests of the Super Heavy rocket, which include the increasingly complex static fires that led to a full-duration 31 Raptor engine test—the largest number of simultaneous rocket engine ignitions in history. The team has also constructed the world’s tallest rocket launch and catch tower. At 146 meters, or nearly 500 feet tall, the launch and catch tower is designed to support vehicle integration, launch, and catch of the Super Heavy rocket booster. For the first flight test, the team will not attempt a vertical landing of Starship or a catch of the Super Heavy booster.”

A live webcast of the flight test will begin about 45 minutes before liftoff. As is the case with many space-related launches, this schedule is dynamic and likely to change.

“During the next attempt on Thursday, the Super Heavy booster will detach and then make a hard splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico about eight minutes after liftoff. Starship’s upper-stage spacecraft will make a partial lap around Earth, coming down in the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii around 90 minutes after launch,” the report said.

Is the 4/20 date significant? Probably, given Musk’s past five years in the spotlight: On August 7, 2018, Musk tweeted he was mulling over taking Tesla private, quoting a price of $420 per share for the buyout.

He told the New York Times that he’s aware of how popular weed is, but he’s not sure how it could help productivity, to be candid. “It seemed like better karma at $420 than at $419,” Musk said. “But I was not on weed, to be clear.” That all changed a month later on a podcast appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience.

On September 6, 2018, Musk smoked a blunt on episode #1169 of The Joe Rogan Experience. Rogan himself became embroiled in the topic of free speech due to his Spotify fiasco, over concerns the podcaster was sharing information that wasn’t medically sound.

What a stupid grandma.

Pam Annette Bickerton, 73, faced a pre-sentencing hearing at Adelaide Magistrates Court last week, after admitting to a count of supplying or administering a controlled drug to a child, court documents showed.

‘Very last warning’ for 82-year-old German convicted of dealing marijuana

Retired seaman, who has 24 previous convictions, avoids jail despite prosecutors’ call for prison term

A German court has given an 82-year-old man a “last warning” to avoid jail after he was found guilty of drug dealing, despite 24 previous convictions.

The retired seaman, who said he wanted to improve his meagre €800 (£690) monthly pension by selling marijuana, was handed a suspended sentence by a court in the northern town of Aurich.

German news agency dpa reported that prosecutors had asked the court to impose a prison term of 34 months in view of the man’s lengthy criminal record and an existing suspended sentence.

But judges said they would make an exception and classify the latest crimes as “less serious offences” because of the man’s particular circumstances and recent health problems.

Dpa quoted the presiding judge telling the defendant that it was his “very last warning”.

Secret Service finds Cannabis in White House

The Secret Service Uniformed Division confirmed Thursday that it had discovered marijuana in the White House twice last year.

The news comes on the heels of finding cocaine in the West Wing. (Benzinga)

What happened: A couple of hours after the agency closed its investigation into cocaine discovery in the White House, it revealed another discovery of a federally illegal substance. This time around it was cannabis.

“Per the Secret Service Uniformed Division, small amounts of marijuana were found on two occasions in 2022 (June and September), at a checkpoint,” Secret Service told the National Review in a statement Thursday.

“No one was arrested in these incidents because the weight of the marijuana confiscated did not meet the legal threshold for federal charges or DC misdemeanor criminal charges as the District of Columbia had decriminalized possession. The marijuana was collected by officers and destroyed,” the agency added.

Per the report by Fox New Digital, the amount discovered both times was less than 0.2 ounces

On Thursday, the agency also confirmed that it has closed its investigation into cocaine discovery without identifying a suspect, CNN first reported. This was not welcomed by some Republican lawmakers such as Georgia Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene who wrote: "With all the drug testing tools available, a list of approx 500 people, surveillance cameras, fingerprints, and more, the Secret Service is ending their investigation on who brought cocaine in the White House with ZERO suspects! But the DOJ is still arresting and prosecuting more people for J6.”

Authorities Find Weed Cultivation Site Inside Church

Law enforcement officers in Tennessee have raided a weed cultivation operation located in a converted church.

Law enforcement officials in Tennessee have shut down a cannabis cultivation site that was operating in a converted church, seizing about 2,000 weed plants in the process. The raid on the church, which was conducted last week by the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), was the result of a weeks-long investigation, according to law enforcement officials.

Although the plant count was not especially high for commercial marijuana growing operations, Sheriff Frankie Gray noted that the bust shut down Stewart County’s largest discovered weed farm ever.

“The sheriff’s office shut down the largest marijuana grow in county history,” Gray said in a statement to local media.

In a social media post on Friday, the sheriff’s office noted that deputies had been conducting an investigation of the church for three weeks after local residents reported a strong odor emanating from the property. The investigators conducted traffic stops to question people they had seen coming from and going to the church and were told that hemp was being grown at the site, which is legal in Tennessee with a license from the state.

Sheriff’s deputies also investigated the electricity and water usage at the property, which was originally built as a Methodist church in 1960 and later sold. Investigators learned that the grow operation had a water bill that was characterized by local media as “high” and was using about $3,000 per month in electricity.

Last week, the SCSO obtained a search warrant for the church on Highway 46 in the community of Indian Mound. Sheriff’s deputies and law enforcement officers from the 23rd Judicial Drug Task Force then raided the site on Thursday and discovered about 2,000 cannabis plants including live plants and others that had already been harvested and dried. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation also assisted in serving the search warrant.

Cops Fear Possible Booby Traps At Cultivation Site

The sheriff’s office said the marijuana cultivation operation included elaborate lighting and watering systems operated by automatic timers. The agency also reported that the search of the site was slowed as deputies investigated “the possibility of booby traps laid out for law enforcement.” The SCSO also reported that investigators found “a large amount of possibly toxic chemicals” at the site.

Law enforcement officers took one person into custody when the search warrant was served, although officials did not specify what charges the individual was being held on. Others are wanted for questioning, the sheriff’s office said.

The converted church, which is located in northern central Tennessee about 70 miles northwest of Nashville, is listed for sale on Zillow, according to media reports. The property is listed as having four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The listing also notes that the site, which formerly had two buildings, was converted into one building with the addition of a breezeway. The person posting the listing said they were “looking for a quick sale” of the property.

Tennessee is one of only about a dozen U.S. states that have not adopted a comprehensive plan to legalize medical marijuana, although a limited measure to legalize low-THC CBD oil was passed in 2015. Possession of even small amounts of cannabis is still a misdemeanor criminal offense.

Those who commented on the social media post from the sheriff’s office in conservative Stewart County were mostly in favor of the law enforcement action to shut down the cannabis cultivation site discovered at the church last week.

“Our Law Enforcement Agency is always on top of things. Great job!” one person commented.

“Thank you for shutting this operation down,” said another. “Your hard work is appreciated. Stay safe.”

“Thankful for our sheriff’s department and all involved,” added a third Facebook user.
