Discontinued The Grasshopper

Vapes no longer in production
These are the guys that have been developing a replacement AC powered back end for the Hopper,
Nothing listed yet but worth emailing to get on the list of people wanting it.

This combo looks nice (so that is a PFE), I would love to get my mitts on one of the latest jobs just to play around with powering it differently, there may be a few come up for sale as the batteries die.

Pfe is wider
Better airflow for the bong
More vapour :)

I emailed maxvapor
Hopefully I can get a power cord from them

The reason it's more difficult to power than one may think is that the end has half the tech in it and the body the other half
So it not just about closing the circuit and using any power source
Still need both parts ATM to work it

Batteries will last a while
But eventually people may start selling them off

I just want my other one back now

Batteries will last a while

Unless you got the new ones that HL says not to use...I thought you would be safe as long as you watch them while being charged but someone said the hopper does not have much in the way of venting for the battery so you pretty well have a pipe bomb between your fingers!
Nothing alarmist about that, so I don't know, I do know it is well and truly off my Black Friday wish list.

I haven't got my new batteries yet
Still going on the other ones I bought
No bomb here
But yea if you had dodgy batteries it def could be fun times with the way it is made

I got the email as I have just received four batteries, one of which they replaced because it was flaky to recharge...showed as an open but if fiddled about a bit you could get it to charge to a limited extent. I was happy with their response of just sending me out another one.

There is much to this that doesn't make a great deal of sense to me but I try (emphasis on "try") to be fact based and not buy into conspiracy theories (like its an insurance scam) before any valid evidence. Right now, its all in the wind to me.

But, who the hell would insure a manufacturing facility that does not have fire detection (and I don't just mean a locally audible alarm) and suppression system? Remember, they had their own board building machines which says to me that they also had wave soldering capability. I can't imagine anybody stupid enough to allow this without fire suppression. As a matter of fact, I have a hard time thinking that Boulder code doesn't absolutely require remote alarm detection (like to ADT, right) and active suppression

I note that someone above referenced them saying it was a "smoldering" fire....but it was hot enough in there to destroy manf equipment, RMA GHs, etc. If it was that hot, then it was hot enough to set off alarms and suppression if such was present at all.

I don't know, but smoldering often means a lack of oxygen which is resolved sometimes explosively by opening a door. I'm glad nobody got hurt during this incident.

Also, the battery thing makes little sense to me. They say that the fire dept's initial finding was the building electrical system was the source of the fire.

If it was the Li batteries, I should think this would be very apparent but that seems to not be the case.

But they are telling us, after a VERY long back order wait for batteries, to toss them. Hence, we may as well toss our GHs into the sock draw as they are useless without a good battery.

But then they say "Once the battery is remade or the safety has been fully re-certified to our satisfaction, we will replace these batteries free of charge."

This implies that they still have a bulk of their recent battery order in hand. Perhaps stored in a different location?

And how do you re-certify a shipment of batteries. Sample testing? Not all that reassuring to the blokes whose battery wasn't sample tested. I really dunno what they mean and suspect they don't either.

My suspicion is that they are shell shocked, needed to react quickly, and that the history, current situation, and future plans will become more apparent with a little bit of time.

And what of the poor sods who had a GH in with them for warranty repair and is now slag? If I'm right, they still had at least a six month backlog of repairs. I don't know their throughput so I can't put a number on it, but I suspect its not inconsequential and wonder how they will ever resolve this. I had recently gotten one of my two GH's back from yet another RMA but this time it was actually fixed and works like a champ. My other one, also after multiple RMAs, still ran cold and I was going to send it back again and look to buy a second one on black friday with all of the new parts, processes, etc. Well, that's not going to happen now.

Unless they have some gold plated insurance, I'm not all that confident that there will be a Hopper Labs going forward. But, we have to wait and see.

Wow what poor timing for a fire, not that there is really a good time! The whole battery debacle and now this!

I have two, a Stainless steel and a green titanium sitting with my other back bench vapes, like the Apollo and Tera amongst others. Had one warranty return due to “cop lights”and it was returned repaired. Used it twice to see if the fix “stuck” and it was fine in that limited run. After that put em both away and moved on to other vapes hence why I have 26 vapes now, ha!

Now I wonder do I suddenly have two valuable vapes or are they worthless if batteries are no longer available?

having worked in the insurance industry for twenty years, I hope they have a standard carrier and not a sub-standard. If the insurance carrier determines they were out of local code in fire suppression or the electrical system was defective GH could get a big fat denial letter or a compromised settlement offer. Either way the consumer gets to eat it. Even if they get a reasonable offer it would be hard to make everyone whole, especially those folks who have a unit or units in the building. Given the troubling history of this company, sending out $50 coupons or something like that isn’t going to satisfy product owners. And how long to get back on their feet? 3 months, six months maybe a year? That will be a bridge too far for most folks.

Now who wants two lightly used Grasshoppers? Or hold em for a year and they double in value?

I think they will drop in value especially if we can't replace the batteries
I have 3 good batteries ATM
One is older so will die first
I have one good hopper
I sent one hopper back that is most likely lost in the fire

If these ac cords work out if consider buying a spare but I'm not paying stupid prices lol

I have a spare working body too
So I'm thinking the AC cord may have to replace the back end to work

Which means I will have two working hoppers if I can get a wall wart

I just want the one I sent into them back because I paid for it and have only had it in my possession for 3 months of the 18 or more months I've owned

In fact that would make me wary of buying another 2nd hand one off a forum as that is my one in RMA

I bought a new one from hopper and it hasn't failed in over a year

The money HL have from me I want some form of compensation if I don't get my goods
And not in another year

So I got a reply to my email about my hopper

They said new warranty information will be shared soon

Then I got another email advertising a new version hopper coming out in April
Stronger heater etc

But they are offering a 10% discount on the final sale price if you put a $99 deposit down now and pay the rest in April when they are ready

Like wtf. These guys never lived up to the fast charger or engraved ss cases that were paid for over a year ago (I got a refund) and the batteries took forever and I never received before the fire

The rmas they were 12 months behind in fixing for people

And now they are still trying to get people to pay for shit they have not made and hope for the best

Same old funding themselves before they have a product

And they have to fix us up for the rmas

Suss af imo

Sounding more like an insurance type job each day.....

If the new one had 18650 or even a less popular 10650 or whatever as long as it was not proprietary and I may have bitten but same batteries but running a bigger heater...great.

Those batteries are too big for the unit to be what it is

I wouldn't mind a new one knowing how good my one has been that I bought from them

I just wouldn't give them money ever for something that they have not made or have in stock anymore
The whole affair is dodgy

I have one scerrick of hope they will give me one of the new ones as a replacement for my rma
I doubt it through

I call those going out of business fires....

And the crowd funding would be their new start up. I, personally, wouldn't touch this company or it's products. I don't like their history and their methods of doing business. Doesn't matter how good the vape is if you can't get the company to stand behind it.

Maxvapor is making an 18650 and wall backend to suit your Hopper, they said elsewhere,

So as some of you may be aware, we are developing a kit to allow people to use an external wall power supply or an external 18650 battery to power their Grasshoppers.

As this will likely be something we only do a single manufacturing run for, I want to make sure I get all of the numbers right on the first try. I have put up a pre-order / reservation link on our website for $39 to reserve a kit.

Kit Includes:

  • SS316 Grasshopper Body Extension
  • Dummy Battery Insert with XT30 Connector
  • Custom 4.2V Power Converter
  • 120/240V Wall Adapter
  • 2x 18650 Battery Sled
* Parts Subject to Change

This is a Pre-Order / Reservation Item, the final cost of this product has not yet been determined.

Retail price is expected to be $79 - $99. Remaining balance will be due upon shipping.

The item shown in the photos is a body extension tube for the grasshopper, which allows us to run wires into the body without modification of the grasshopper itself. This particular prototype was just a thread test, the production piece is a little longer and has a knurled section to make it easier to remove.

As we receive the power boards and dummy batteries back, I will post photos of them also.

You can reserve your kit here https://maxvapornail.com/collection...r-kit-reservation-only?variant=31635924746330

Estimated Ship Date: Late January 2020

Hopefully this will help some out...

HL intro'd their IO,
What throws me off is it reads $99 in bold top of page, this is only pre-order.
The finer print below reads $255 SS and higher for Ti, not crazy for this kind of advertising particularly from a company with questionable CS etc..
I'm sure many hopper fans will jump on the IO, I'm gonna wait and see after release. Perhaps a demo video by the manufacturer??

Mods, not sure if this should require a new thread labeled IO.

I mentioned this above about how they are trying to sell something straight after the fire in the same manner as everything else they sell
Pay well before it's made and hope for the best
Supposedly a new more powerful hopper

Sounds suss AF to me especially with their history and straight after a suss fire

I am hoping I get one as a replacement for my hopper they supposedly lost in the fire

I wonder if the new IO will get as hot as the old model,

Hehe, I wonder why their factory caught fire!

Mine has had no such issues
But when some people were complaining about the F2 silicone that's what I was saying about the hopper having a silicone or plastic insulation also yet they thought it was safe
Mighty, dynavap and many vapes have silicone in the path and why I was not so concerned about the F2

But yea I thought that bit on the hopper was always a plastic type possible to melt if hot enough material

Definitely no signs at all on mine of this and I pump mine
Mind you I don't have it turned up so that it combusts - I could but want vapour

I wonder if this one in picture was using the faulty batteries or not?

Or someone torched it to achieve that as it looks more burnt inside the metal part
I would have thought a lot more melted plastic/silicone part first if the metal is that burnt

Looks torched

If it's from normal use I wonder about the battery used
