Watched this last night on mushrooms.. twice actually..
Was clearly shot with saturation up, and vivid shot for people tripping...
Crazy how vital fungi is for life...
When we destroy this world an wipe ourselves out, the mycelium underground will reset it all and start again..
Also crazy how trees talk to each other, share nutients, and even recognise their own offspring and send them food.. all through the mycelium network.. nature is smarter than we think.. and will always win in the end...

I guess I just wasn't made for these times.
So, James Gunn.
His latest is The Suicide Squad.
It started off as fluff and cheese and pulp comics that were excuses to put multiple villains into one story - people love villains - and which grew into stories about what it's like to live as a person who's irreedemable and wildly expendable in a world which wishes he/she would just die.
James taps right into that.
As a person who's been studying film since I was a child - father insisted - I feel as though I know a bit about it. Not to toot my own horn or anything.
Watch this movie. It's fun. It's silly. It's sweet. It's sad. It's stylized. It'll makes you feel young again.
And it's got a killer soundtrack.

@EveryDayAmnesiac been putting SS off for some reason, maybe its all the manic meth stylized quick cuts that has me jaded? miss the slow paced moving cinematic style that was trendy years ago. perhaps tonight i watch this after a few bowls?

Funny sketch if you have the time. Goldblum is a good sport.
There's a bit of story to it.
Lady friend and I have been watching a lot of SNL sketches from the early to mid 90s because she wants to know what I was watching while I was growing up - she's fucking awesome.
And we stumbled upon this sketch and as soon as it started she proclaims, "Oh my god this is YOU! This is so YOU!" Like when you're going on and on about some old movie I've never heard of and you're explaining it to me and I just wish you would shut up this is what it's like! Oh my god!"
Now, oddly enough, when in high school, I was regularly compared to David Spade then too. Snarky sarcastic little shit. Although one could argue not much has changed there. But still, after all these years, I'm getting compared to him.
And I did work in a mom and pop video store from '96-'00. But I was more like Randall from Clerks. Some of the shit I said to customers in those days ... yeah they wouldn't fly today. I'd be fired on the spot.
Lots of good memories though. They had a huge room of pornographic videos and in those days that was taboo and it led to many interesting ways people would go about renting them. Hilarious to think about some of those encounters now.

Gah. I was watching wrestling in those days and remember this bit.
"Hey, do we have any props or a writer or something around? We need to shoot this now."
"Uh, no ... but we do have a coked-up Randy Savage and some mini creamers ... "

I didn't much care for the first one as I felt it simply catered to a younger audience and I hated Jared Leto's Joker - the look, the voice, the dialogue. All of it really. I just didn't get it. I didn't like the Killer Croc portrayal. I found Deadshot to be adequte at best. El Diablo's character I found obnoxious. Enchantress is just confusing and not exactly intimidating.
Harley is cool, of course - but is 10x better in the new one, IMO. Amanda Waller is great in both. Rick Flag is fine but much more charasmatic in the new one.
I'm not saying it's a bad movie - I think I'm just too old for it.
The dude who wrote and directed the new one is a filmmaker I've followed for many a long year now (
) and I thought did a better job of being able to include the same younger crowd while also making it enjoyable for fans of the original run of comics. Just my opinion. Either way, they're both worth watching. Because it's the fucking Suicide Squad.Hmm. Hobbit or Star Wars ... what Star Wars are we talking here?

Everyone tries to separate themselves from Ledger's joker
Leto looked more cartoonish and was channeling Saturday morning super friends at the disco joker
Cesar Romero is a favorite despite being from the camp series
Ledger is 1, his joker was a true Gen-X joker and more aligned with Frank Miller's Batman (Miller was a boomer but an X-er at heart)
Joaquin Phoenix did an admirable job
Usually do a full run on Star Wars in episodic order
On crazy marathons you incorporate the animated series in a chronological order that has you jumping all over the place
The Hobbit is a choice between extended versions and 3D

They were good movies in my opinion
Moved the genre along with the help of Freddy and Jason
No more vampire movies until...........Oldman's portrayal of Dracula (he was good)and Lestat
Poor Anne Rice, careful how those rights get distributed
Tom Cruise will scoop them up and over act them to death
How to kill a vampire for good
Still love Evil Dead for the meth like quality of the action
