How does one" trust the science, experts, news or teachers"when they not only contradict each other but often themselves.
I see this as both sides attempt to politicize and leverage this for perceived personal gain.
The experts on tv keep getting it wrong on everything yet everyone keeps buying into "The Stupid".

@Disrupt, I wanted to say I greatly appreciate your capacity to think about things.

I say this knowing we might disagree politically... If so it doesn't mean ill be disagreeable. I appreciate you man... Jeff
I welcome and cherish disagreement in most matters.
Historically speaking when "everyone" in a society gets marching in lockstep it spells atrocities for the rest.
How the fuck else does one actually learn except by open, free debate and that only occurs in a open, free society.
We are going down a bad path to a dark place...........for "everyone's" own good I fear.
Personally we are choosing to not live in fear, love our neighbors, mind our business and be as happy as we can make ourselves.

Doctors subjected to online abuse and death threats by Covid deniers

On a lighter note, I was just at the closest Long Term Care Facility to deliver some edibles and a new stem to a patient that I have there.
He was Covid free, after being positive for Covid weeks ago. He says his chest still hurts, but it is improving. They have a dedicated wing for positive patients.
He gets to return to his room in a week.

Rather than try to pick a video, of Covid deniers that have officially changed their tunes, after first hand experience, Here is a link to all 200+ videos:

@arb , At this point in time keeping in mind the amount of data we have now is several times what we had at the begining.

A world wide pandemic provides multiple data points in different circumstance.

With medical today being at the level it is there should be at this point a right direction to go.

Listen to doctors on the front lines. Not the doctors providing care. But the doctors claiming to treat with success.

Doctors do one of two things.
Provide care or treatment when able.

For the average Joe, treatment & those claiming it should be looked at when available.

Just thoughts of mine I feel are reasonable

Just my opinion, but anyone...I mean anyone no matter how many STEM advanced degrees they have....anyone who is a talking head in a box on a "news" program has a network narrative direction to follow and an axe to grind and I do not trust any of them.

While not a big fan of Couric...she did relay a quote from a friend of hers that "there is no more journalism, only advocacy" and I find this true and that its applicability extends to cherry picked "experts" on whatever channel you choose to watch.

Its quite sad and does not augur well for the future, IMO.

That's very kind of you to say! Thinking about replies frequently exposes unrecognized prejudices and misunderstandings.

Way back in May, @Helios posted a link to an article about ivermectin. Didn't take it seriously at the time (even had a laugh with @Baron23 over it). Didn't connect it to Sumit Chanda's screening of 13,000 pharmaceuticals. That's how he found the cheap leprosy drug. Thinking about your post brought it to mind a second time, more productively. Thanks for that.

VA is the internet at its best, a forum where people with diverse experience can listen to and learn from one another.

trust the science

You answered your own question. Trust the science, not the scientist. Easier said than done.

This really is worth a read... this is clearly not the result of a natural spillover...

It's worth pointing out that the authors' conclusions differ from yours. Found on a Wordpress site for easier access.

In a significant change from a year ago, a growing number of top experts... have stated publicly (several in early 2020) that a lab leak remains a plausible scientific hypothesis to be investigated, regardless of how likely or unlikely.

"A plausible scientific hypothesis" does not equal clear evidence.

In any event, the options are: the virus came from bats in 2013 and lab workers became infected with it in 2019; and, the virus came from bats in 2019 and wild animal connoisseurs became infected with it shortly afterward. Why is one option more satisfying than another? It's the same sort of event (zoonosis), it's just a question precisely where and when it occurred.

IMO, the only conclusion is that locating a virology institute next to a wildlife market makes investigating an outbreak very difficult.

This may make some of you uncomfortable, nevertheless, keep an open mind, It's long.
Made it through 1 minute, 30 seconds. Cringed through "cellular modification technology" but lost it at "nanobiological warfare" swabs. Don't get it - some of your posts ARE worth a look, but there's no telling which ahead of time. Are you playing tricks on us? :smoke:

Why are things opening back up,nothing has changed regards covid?
Much has changed. New cases are way down in the US (<100K per day). Vaccines are being distributed. At the same time, COVID is now caused by a family of very similar coronaviruses. Based on preliminary evidence, several are more contagious than the parent, at least two are somewhat distinct antigenically, and at least one may cause severe symptoms more frequently. It's a roller-coaster.

It had a synthetic voice like the foreign made "fact" videos on youtube, making it difficult to listen to.
It was also as you worked ... long.
Nothing about it made me uncomfortable...While it did present a few facts, it was mostly narration of opinion.
I tried to keep an open mind as you requested... but... nah!

I'll ask the same question!:thinker:
Why are things opening back up,nothing has changed regards covid?
  1. Because people are impatient and self centered.
  2. Because consumers and business owners are using poor judgement.
  3. Because Business owners are greedy.

Been a year how deep do you think most "greedy business owners" pockets are Vito?
I couldn't afford to go that long without any income can you?

I find it unusual that now that I answered, you respond with:

I do not care about how deep their pockets are, or how long they (or I ) go without income.
Their willingness to continue following safety guidelines is what is in question....
and it was the question that you asked.
