  • Did you know we have lots of smilies for you to use?
I'm surprised no one has started playing VC pong, you pea shooter ABV into cups of alcohol or warm milk, hot chocolate, you know what ever takes your fancy and gets it in your system quickest.

Hybrid blanks are rock hard, the wood is stabilised with a resin which is harder than the acrylics they use.
High speed steel dulls too quick and ends up futile as more time is spent sharpening than turning, carbide tips however cut much better and need little to no sharpening.

No idea how this is going to turn but I saw the blanks and thought why not, light as a feather.

The age of this wood is still mind boggling, I struggle to imagine what it would have been like for these trees.
20190207-111310.jpg

Some other harder to get woods, for me, arrived as well.

You know there's some serious shit to be done when the brown and blue wires come out:lol:

All spoken for, I think. Most are headed out to my Spannabis partner in crime, a couple of Rasta ones and a couple more personal to the customers.

I had some 2700 year old redwood found at the bottom of the SNAKE RIVER in NORTHERN CALIFORNIA that the vaping companies would not make me a cover for a LOG VAPE I had?
So I made fins for a wall hanger surfboard from JAWS a SURF SPOT on MAUI, Hawaii that went to a MUSEUM for visitors to enjoy.
I guess it meant more to me than to others?
So pretty your stems?

@Stevenski I have a second blank.
@momofthegoons a nightmare to file all cack handed and trying to ignore all the lines of laminate.
@ataxian did they give any reason why they wouldn't turn it? I'm sure if you had a decent size piece @Ed's TnT would be happy to turn a WS for you.

This Cocobolo blank is 80mm square, with a 65mm hole in it the wall thickness was less than ideal but it's stayed together.

I know my stems work and because of this they go out to people 'untested'. IH's on the other hand need a test run or two.

Blanks come in square and need 'roughing out' to cylinders, some woods behave better than other during this process.
Not all of them enjoy the process

Especially not this piece of African Ebony which had been cross cut on the diagonal, the gouge was either skipping around on the surface or digging in which you can see ends up in disaster.
Still haven't found one of the pieces

Blackwood with aluminium accents in a mix of two shapes I've done recently.

Lol.... I could almost hear the words coming out of your mouth... :dog:

Really like the new shapes you're playing with phatts. Very sleek.

Beautiful work as always @phattpiggie you always killing it!

@ataxian Hmm is it something I could do for you? Be happy to talk about it if you like.

The stem’s for the “M” VAPCAP are impressive!
I don’t need one however I want one!
Before I fell apart wood was my passion!

Live da DREAM.

My hobby was EXOTIC WOOD.
I was into CNC TECHNOLOGY.
ATAXIA took this away?
My LATHE is covered in dust?
G- code was a useful mathematical process for this hobby?

@phattpiggie your work is nice!
So jealous!

@momofthegoons I can swear, I'm a good little swearer. Cuss words roll off the tongue with little to no provacation.

Thank you @Ed's TnT I knew you'd be happy to help Ataxian out.

@ataxian we are all very unique people who've all lived very different lives. Brought together by a common denominator.
I've never had any hobbies and missed the CNC thing, I left engineering because the pay and environment were shite.

Right now I'd love to understand G code, or any CAD/CAM stuff.

If I were to recommend an upgrade from your M, 17M I seem to recall, it would be the ShadowM and an induction heater.

Don't get me wrong I preferred the 17M tip over all the tips, I'm a Ti tip whore so I've done a few, but now the Shadow is my daily.

Induction is the way forward for the peace and quiet you can use the VC and not sound like your doing some brazing.

Thank you for the kind words.
I feel your frustration on the dusty lathe. The lathe that helped me on my stem trip was my late father's and I had to clean off the dust it had collected while he was ill before I moved it to mine.

Anyways how about a bit of wood porn, exotic'ish.

MagLev, it's ace.

So many of @phattpiggie I like, could be an expensive habit...lol
I agree. I have a list of 5 - 6 'must haves' that I haven't fulfilled yet lol.... And the man keeps coming up with new ideas.

How much for the magnet caps ?
Shoot him a pm. I doubt he'll discuss prices in a post. And when you find out you can pm me and tell me.

No point in being in this game if you're a one trick pony.

While it would be easy to turn out the same style in different woods it's fukin dull.
It'd be a case of got one got them all.

Of course offering a variety of styles can be daunting for some people as they try and work out what they'd like but I'm more than happy to spend a bit of time discussing styles and woods with anyone.
I want my customers to receive something unique to them and as ever I'll try and get the process in pictures and video.

@momofthegoons I spoke with the CNC shop today and there will hopefully be some new hot end pieces in the works so you may want to look away when I've got pictures.

@felvapes I've no idea how much to charge for the magnets. Material cost doesn't come into the equation, the neo's are cheap and the wood or acrylics are off cuts. It's down to time.
I'll more than likely do a few and put them in with stems as surprise gifts and get a bit of feedback on them and go from there.

All this pricing business is beyond me and it doesn't help that I'm as tight as a ducks arse.

Spain for me first thing in the morning it's going to be a hectic weekend with great people.
Pics and video to come, after all it din't happen unless you seen it.

Both myself and Mrs.PP can cook so I don't eat out often in the UK, it's either stupid money or plain old shite.
I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal in Spain and it's always value for money.
This is a well know Breton cake that @Aezhenn brought with him, Kouign-amann. New York Times described it as the 'fattiest pastry in all of Europe'. Cold it was nice, warmed up it was really nice. Viennoiserie dough, butter and sugar all folded in layers.

The rest are from when we ate out. Apologies for the focus. Plenty of cephalopod as I won't cook them in my house because of the smell.

@Ed's TnT gifted me a Cocobolo WS along with a @Timberheaddesigns stand, eternally grateful and I'm sure there will be some UK vapers dropping round to have a play.

It would be highly inappropriate for me to do any kind of review on a gifted WS, especially as I've built up a friendship with Ed.
A usage video tells the tale very well. Three more hits after this one.

Back to reality and after catching up with the 'paperwork' it was time for a play.
The lower extra slimline Cocobolo was a practice run, the next ones will hopefully end up segmented.

Top one is Maple Burl, a real challenge getting the 45° MP
Scale rules make working out the sizes a bit easier, I should be drawing every stem really rather than scale them off my laptop screen.

Here's the pair of them next to a ShadowM for a bit of scale.
