Lunacy Random Thoughts

Columbian Gold sure sounds vintage. Having started consuming cannabis late, I've heard of, but never tried, classic strains like Columbian Gold, Acapulco Gold, Maui Waui. I still haven't tried Northern Lights. For sure, I'm an underachiever in the sampling strains department. New strains seem to be coming out so fast, it's hard to keep up. Are crosses with GSC better than GSC? Is Blue Dream old news? Should I just get Dream Cookies? Cookie Dreams? Are the new crosses better than the old, or are classics being diluted?
These aren't problems, and I don't think they are problems. I think it just comes down to, so much weed, so little time.
Also, I miss @arb and @BD9.

I say follow your nose. I think that's the best indicator of if you might like a variety. Names mean almost zero now days.

I smoked a ton of weed in the 70's. I fondly remember a lot of great weed, a lot of meh weed, but one that stood out to me was Panama red. It was covered in red hairs, and a pin joint would send you soaring for hours.

It's hard to compare then to now tho. I do believe at least some was as strong as today, despite the govt scare stories.

But in general we handle it much better now days. Instead of a baggy under the car seat, we keep it in jars on a shelf. That in itself is big. I haven't seen a mexi brick in years, thank God, lol.

I've seen pictures of the jars in dispensaries. I like the look of that system, with the bud tender with chop sticks fishing nuggets from a glass jar, but it's packaged now in Cali. I've only seen mexi brick in pictures as well. I have liked some strains better than others, but can't say I've had any I dislike. What I do is spend time reading about strains, then read reviews, then take a chance based on what my bud tender suggests after waving around money and saying loudly, "What can I get for $20.00?" . This is followed up with, " How much?!! There's hardly anything there!" Or, " That's almost as much in taxes! " Or "That's ridiculous! It's only a plant! How do you expect me to pay that, and still pay bills?!" You know, almost anything to show I'm a discerning customer, and loud enough to let other customers know what's what, but not loud enough for Security to come over. :freak:
Or I would do that, but I'm mostly a nice person, so I behave. In reality, all anyone wants to talk about are my Service Dogs at the shops. The dogs love it, the bud tenders and managers offer them treats and want to pet them, I get to listen to stories about their dogs, and when the topic finally turns to bud, I seem to get a good deal. Sometimes I just send Madri-Guy out so I can avoid the dog talk, but then he gets questions about "Where's your Mom? Where are the dogs? Is she ok? Are they OK?" One shop has a resident terrier they let out of the office when we come in, and they want my dogs to play. It never happens, but no matter how much I explain they are working, Winston is brought over as the Pot Shop Mascot and Welcoming Committee. It's friendly as all get out, and there isn't much to do but answer questions, be nice, tip well and leave as quickly as possible. The upside is, you can't bring a phone in to the shops, so I don't have to look at pictures of everyone else's dogs. That sounds unfriendly, but it's a rare day when I can go anywhere and not look at someone's dog pictures. I don't understand it. Dogs aren't exotic animals. It's not like I'm hanging out with a giraffe, but take a working dog inside, and people go nuts and come over and want to ask questions, pet them, and share pictures of their dog. I've been at the Emergency Room, and had nurses and staff come in to see the dogs. The doctors usually wait until it's time for discharge, but they usually want to pet them as well.
So that's an odd turn from names of cannabis to the working dog trials, but I must have needed to get that off my chest. Might also explain why I'm offered Chem Dawg so often.

I wish I could smell the fragrance of pot before I buy, I have 18x seeds in my seedbanks checkout (9 varieties)) that I am trying to pay for (AU$330) but am having trouble paying for. So it will be many months before I can do a bit of strain comparing...I can hardly wait.

I know a name doesn’t mean anything. I’ve heard they try to find a name of something people will buy. But, if something says Cat Piss I probably won’t buy it. It took me a long time before I bought Green Crack.
We really need to be able to smell and feel it before we buy. I realize we really can’t feel it but I want to know if it’s all dry. We have packaged cannabis here in WA state so unforetunatly we can’t smell it. I miss the days of the large jars at the dispensary and the Saturday Cannabis Farmers Markets where I could buy premium cannabis for $100 -$150 for an ounce. It’s not shake either or all dried out. I could buy an ounce of shake for $50 and I could make edibles with that.

Don’t get me wrong we have some awesome cannabis here. $10 gram average price. I usually buy premium cannabis - 1/8s can cost $40. I buy on sale days and holidays were I can get 10 or 15% off. I’ve been using oil lately $30 for a gram.
Sometimes the lower priced cannabis can be good but not always. I will buy a small amount and go back if I really like it. It must be expensive packaging up a gram of cannabis.

I just love the names growers give cannabis. I'd far rather buy something called Purple Passion than say, F12. Have I passed up good strains because of bad names? I'm sure of it. Have I bought a bad strain because of a good name? I can't say I have thus far, as I've liked most of what I've tried. I am less likely to buy OG Kush because I find the name boring. I have some Mendo Breath, but don't like the name. It makes me feel like I should brush my teeth, or eat a Mendo mint.

I can hardly wait to try some sativa dominant strains, always had indica since 99 and don't know what before then.

What are you looking for that's different, @LesPlenty ? Sounds like you want to shake things up a bit. Are the popular strains different there, or do international seed banks keep things the same? Totally ignorant questions. I vaped some Purple Punch using my EQ and @ddave Cowboy, and boom! I was roasted, toasted, then out for a nap. Around here ( Northern California) it's about Blue Dream, Girl Scout Cookies and her zillion variations ( Platinum Cookies, Wedding Cake, Do-Si-Do's, Orange Cookies, etc), Green Crack, Strawberry Banana, and other fruity strains like Cherry Pie, Cherry Kola, Black Cherry, candy names like zkittlez, Sour Patch Kidz, ice cream names like Gelato, Sorbet, Sunset Sherbert... What's popular in your neck of the woods?
I very much enjoy the Mendo Breath, by the way. I just think it would sound better as Mendo Meds, or the very fun Mendocino Medicino ( Mendocino is part of the Emerald Triangle comprised of Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity Counties).

No choices here @Madri-Gal, seedbanks send via extra discreet mail but a gamble if you will get anything as we are still criminals here!
I am going to try a few to see what I like if I can ever order (a PM from anyone with a seed bank recommendation would be nice)

I'm sorry to hear about not having choices where you are, @LesPlenty . Getting new seeds in should help a great deal. You've got the mad grow skillz, we just need to make sure you get some good genetics.

Thanks @Madri-Gal , after this list, there's no way I'm not making a dispensary run to re-up! :drooling:

Strawberry Banana sounds yum too but is currently unavailable at the seed bank I am looking at.:uhoh:

We do get a choice. Buy or don't buy weed :dog:. I pay a significant premium for the bud I vape but it is consistently good quality. I could never tell you what strain it is though.

That was my state only ten years ago.

Out of state seed sales delivered by the mail are still iffy and intercepted regularly here.

If my state returned to the old ways, I'd move. Freedom is that important to me.

But we're both better off than those countries, like china, that have crazily restrictive laws that limit personal freedoms.

Been buying strawberry banana flavored oil made with the terpenes from the cannabis as well as the fruit terpenes. Some of the oil I had come across gave me nasal infections and last fall I was getting one after the other. Since finding this flavored oil I haven’t had any problems. The taste is so awesome and not harsh unless you take too deep of a draw.:smilie-devil:

...not sure if i'm unusual in this way or not... i only say that because i keep in touch with a few friends from back in the day (unemployed and basically do fuck all) and their biggest problem in life is they want someone to hang out with... i work, have a family, volunteer in my community, belong to a service club (kinsmen) and have a few other responsibilities like most adults, i'd assume... they get right upset that i never have time to go sit and hang out with them anymore...

...what i feel might be unusual about me is i enjoy solitude... if i don't get at least an hour of solitude a day i'm not a happy person... as much as i enjoy people, my wife and kids, i need my alone time... I have always been like this. Maybe because i was more or less a loner as a kid (my choice, not forced)... i had 'friends' and got along with almost everyone, i just mostly preferred my own company lol... I've always been a happy person, i try not to complain about anything or any situation but always make the best of whatever is thrown at me... even when you know the average person would give up or quit... my wife once showed me the characteristics of a suicidal person and laughed because i share basically all the same characteristics, except im genuinely a very happy person...

You can't blame them for wanting to hang out with you. You sound like an amazing person, and I consider myself fortunate that I get to "hang out" with you in the Asylum. Clearly, you need your daily alone time to recharge, relax, and regroup so you can be present for your family, job, volunteer and community activity, and they all take time as well. You might not have time for these friends, which might be sad, and I'm sure they would want to know you would love to spend time with them if you had it. It might be you wouldn't spend time with this set, even if you had an additional day a week. Sometimes we outgrow people, or they outgrow us. Be mindful that they represent part of your past, and as we get older, old friends become more dear to us. You might also be an inspiration to them, and inspire them to change course. If they know each other, it seems they could hang out together, if they don't you might introduce them. We all need friends, even underachievers. This doesn't mean you can give what you don't have, be it time or affection. It's ok to end friendships, if it comes to that.
It's not unusual to enjoy solitude. I'm a raging extrovert, and I need copious amounts of alone time. It's also not unusual for people that enjoy your company to want to spend time with you. It sounds like it just might not be time for these friends to be in your life right now.
But, I don't know anything about anything, so bear that in mind. :twocents:

As I read your post, I kept hearing Harry Chapin sing "cats in the cradle". No judgement, your post just reminded me of the song.

In my own life I found retirement gives you time to reconnect with friends. The kids are gone, workday pressures are gone, physically you have changed so your lifestyle changes, but on the bright side, it doesnt matter what time you eat, get up or go to bed, and you have time to reflect, or get high and waste time on the net, lol.

There are Plenty of better vapes than a Mighty

Most of the things listed above are grown/living in Tasmania, the main difference is our produce has the cleanest water and air in the world to flourish in, no DDT and other chemicals used in other countries allowed here and because of our isolation (island) hardly ant pest problems compared to the rest of the world.
Best Beer in the world too due to our water and great barley growing climate(with few pests and disease to control)
