@Squiby yes it's natural bamboo and Casein.
The longer pale pieces are advertised as being parts to make pipes out of and come pre-drilled, more to come on those later.
The darker is the only one out of 3 that survived my attempt at drilling. Fingers crossed I have a new source for them.

The bowl is a piece of Scottish Elm and mainly for the aesthetics.
Traditionally opium was vaped so the bowl held charcoal.
Just got the MP to do and it's time for a final assemble and wax.
Fully lined with SS and pretty simple to clean.
Sits lovely in the hand and has turned out really well.

Caught me unaware as I wrote the above.
@felvapes the custom mentioned catching any avb so you were pretty close.

@Stevenski thank you. Just under a month and I've got 3 years under my belt.
I keep thinking the ideas will dry up at some point but new ones keep turning up.
At this point in time I'm unrivaled when it comes to a choice of design styles. Let's hope it stays that way for a while longer.

@momofthegoons it's still my favourite combination, I'm looking forward to getting the stem done.

Every now and again a request comes in for something non vape related. 1950's Mahogany repurpose.

The King and Co. wooden plane factory closed in 1907, let's hope the worm left something behind as they are getting turned into pen blanks and perhaps an IH enclosure.

Great fun finding stuff to try and get into a stem. It'll work the grey matter working out the stems.

Got a trip down south tomorrow and stuff going on at the end of the week so not much getting done this week.
Walnut and Impero Blue 10mm MP, the factory that made the blue casein blank shut in 1980.

Part way through this couple of IH enclosures, Cocobolo and Buckeye Burl.

The BE has a bit of spongy areas which got dug out and a choice has to be made on what stone to inlay in the holes.

Which way to go, darl Lapis blue, light Turquoise.
Or one of the stones @Squiby sent me over, Unakite top left, Jade top right, Amethyst, Malachite and Carnelian. All around the same hardness.

I have some ancient block planes as well, that's got me thinking.:myday:

.

Had some nice blanks turn up today. Specially asked for the Zebrano to be cross cut at 45°.
Lignum Vitae, Pistachio Tree, Curly Koa, Judas Tree and Zebrano.

Blackwood and Indian Summer case now has a matching slimline stem.
Quite a lot of thought goes into choosing and then cutting a 20mm section of acrylic. Alway hoping it's as busy once you've turned it down to half it's original OD.

@Fat Freddy this lot will get boraxed before I go any further.

One more look at the Zebrano.

@Squiby luckily all the IS blanks I bought are pretty busy so there is little goes to waste. I think there is a 15mm piece left after cutting that one which will be used as an accent at a later date.

Sorry @momofthegoons, but not:rofl:

@Madri-Gal pen blanks are normally cut with the grain running lengthways.
On a 6" long 1" square blank you only have an inch square piece of end grain at either end to deal with.
It takes a bit more effort to work and as I got these cross cut it means the end grain runs the full length of each blank on 2 sides.
Even more effort because of this made worse by the fact that they are destined for twisted stems.
Glutton and punishment are 2 words which come to mind.

Forgot this little video.

I use precision engineering collet chucks once the blank has been taken to a round.
The run out is so tiny I can take pieces in and out or turn them thru 180° and the piece is either bang on or a gnats out which sanding takes up.
The collet on the left was my max at 20mm. An upgrade gets me up to 32mm.

Got a nice little project on the go and these Walnut and Cherry dowels mean a little less work and a lot less mess.
IMG-20190709-170901-347.jpg

@Moses Baca that's the first time I've bought a dowel and the Walnut is particularly nice, fingers crossed they are all of the same quality.

Box of accents, there is enough brass shim to make 360 and I think it's 144 on the aluminium.

A while back a 14mm stubby vong was made with one half of this blank, I warned the customer who bought it not to drop it in a glass joint.
Yesterday saw a stem come to life from the rest of the blank.

As you can see there is some weight to this stem, my DD Bog Oak and casein stem comes in at the lightest.
