An image search brought up a couple of carved walking sticks in the same material but no sign of any that had been turned.
It was all unknown territory.
I think it's the middle one in this picture.

Had a bit of a play with a piece of Matumi which is coming up as being called African Teak as well.
Explains why it clogged the files so much and felt waxy.

'Stem' stem goes out to the grower this week. If it holds up all well and good if not I'll rough some out so it doesn't resemble what it is and get it stabilised.

Part way thru this Bocote open twist which isn't getting a glass condenser. Not saying what's going in this one but the combination of the two looks great.

Making square bits of wood round is a messy and sometimes hazardous job especially with burrwood.
You can see 3/4's of the way thru this first cut a chunk fly out and my gouge back off.
Offer it back up and the blank's off, the jolt must've loosened it up a bit.

A couple of blanks that behaved.
The cross cut Zebrano looks great but it'll need some extra attention and care.

Bocote and Springfields acrylic open twist. They sit really nicely together.

I've turned and filed Snakewood in the past and it's rock hard so this one is going to be interesting to get finished.

Took a lot of messing around trying to get this video together but it's well worth it.
First time I've seen the whole process.
A twisted minute.

The cross cutting of the Zebrano exposes end grain which takes a bit more work to get smoothed off.
Especially when it's then filed into a more interesting shape.

First application of wax really does make it pop.

These helmets are great fun and a nice change to stems. Had some great ideas as I've been doing them.
My little one asked for one with a comb.
Indian Summer with Blackwood.
Texturing just needs finishing on the comb.

Well you just know I love this one.... God I love Indian Summer. Just such a classy and colorful acrylic. Looks great with that Blackwood comb phatts. She's going to love it.

I've got enough going on at the moment and for the foreseeable future.

IH enclosures for me today.
First one is Sumac which must have had the top cut off and split off into two branches.
It's this Y shaped join which gives some great grain patterns and unfortunately a lot of pith.
Second one is Leadwood then Crab Apple.
